O’Gara is the Rugby Writers Player of the Year for 2005

Ronan O’Gara has been named Guinness – Rugby Writers of Ireland Player of the Year while AIB League champions Shannon have once again been voted Club of the Year
Ronan O’Gara has been named Guinness – Rugby Writers of Ireland Player of the Year and will receive his award this evening, from Kieran Rooney, vice Chairman of the Rugby Writers of Ireland and Mr.
Michael Whelan of Guinness, at a banquet in The City West Hotel, Dublin where the international squad are billetted ahead of the autumn internationals.
Ronan was named RTE Sports Personality of 2004 by and this is the second time he has won the
Guinness – Rugby Writers of Ireland Players of the Season award, a feat achieved by only one other player.
And following their title win in the AIB League, Shannon R.F.C., have once again been voted
Club of the Year, while the Tom Rooney Memorial Award, presented for an exceptional contribution to Irish rugby, has been won by Fr. Michael Shiel.
Two new members – Mike Gibson (NIFC, Ulster and Ireland) and Michael Carroll (Terenure
College will be inducted into the Guinness Hall of Fame.
