Youghal RFC earned themselves a place in the final of the AIB All Ireland Junior Cup with a 14-10 win over a determinded City of Armagh side on Saturday

History was made at Youghal RFC on Saturday, when they booked a place in the AIB All Ireland Junior Cup final with a 14-10 victory over City of Armagh. In a very physical but clean game that was played in great spirit, the home side gave its supporters plenty to cheer about after a fantastic performance against tough opposition who themselves had brought a sizeable travelling support.

Youghal set out their stall early on with a penalty from full back Sean Barry after seven minutes, however, Armagh took the lead close to the half hour mark with a try from Ali Redpass, giving the visitors a 5-3 lead which they held at the break. Throughout the game, a very mobile Armagh pack sought to keep play in the tight, however, with Youghal playing a more expansive game, the home side continued their attempts to breach the Armagh defence out wide. Armagh struck again minutes into the second half with a try from Armagh s Johnny Allen to put them 10-3 ahead. However, with 20 minutes to Youghal another Sean Barry penalty gave his side a boost to narrow the deficit to 6-10. Just five minutes later substitute winger Brendan Mackey, after just two minutes on the pitch, put Youghal ahead by just one point with a superb try. Youghal confirmed the victory with a drop goal in injury time, which was the last kick of the game, putting Youghal in contention for an All Ireland title when they play Rainey Old Boys in the final in
