Right Price Tiles Volunteer of the Month

17th February 2006 By Munster Rugby

Right Price Tiles Volunteer of the Month

Donal O’ Connell from Richmond RFC has been selected as the January recipient of the Right Price Tiles Volunteer of the Month Award. Nominations for February are now being taken.

The Munster Branch is delighted to congratulate Donal O Connell from Richmond RFC on becoming the January winner of the Right Price Tiles Volunteer of the Month.

Donal s association with Richmond RFC stretches back over 30 years, and his dedication to the club during that time is unparalled. Donal has been tireless in raising funds for the club by selling lotto tickets, regular raffles and club memberships in the locality, with great success.

When not plying his trade as chief club salesman, or lining the pitch in the Garryowen Green, or travelling the length and breadth of Munster supporting his beloved green and whites, Donal works as a contract electrician, currently based on a project in the Lucan area of Dublin. Donal hails from a large family of ardent Richmond supporters, which includes his father, Donal senior, a Richmond past President and star player. Supporting Richmond is shared passion for all his family.

His latest fundraising venture to help organise a trip by the club to New York in March.

Nominated by his club they say that the club is lucky to have an Honorary Secretary as dedicated as Donal, and the future of the club is in safe hands with people like him at the helm.

Donal joins Nenagh Ormond s Pat Whelan, who was the inaugural winner of the Right Price Tiles Volunteer of the Month in November, and Frank Moynihan of Sunday s Well who was the January winner of the Volunteer of the Month Award.

The Right Price Tiles Volunteer Recognition Programme was launched to give clubs and schools the opportunity to acknowledge the significant contribution made by individuals who have developed, promoted and/or advanced the sport of Rugby in the local community and in the province. Through the Volunteer Recognition Programme, Munster Rugby would like to acknowledge, honour and reward these heroes who devote countless hours week in week out, year after year to provide a safe and enjoyable environment at the grassroots of the game. From the kitchen worker to the weekend linesman to the parents that manage and coach under-age sides. True heroes, each one of them.

This programme kicked off in November and will finish in May 2006, with six individual Volunteer of the Month awards given. The Volunteer Recognition programme is open to any person currently associated with domestic rugby in Munster, in a non-paid capacity at a club, school, college, university or associated affiliate of Munster Branch IRFU.
