Clanwilliam Get Edge Over Highfield
14th November 2007 By Munster Rugby
Last Sunday, Clanwilliam Ladies played a friendly away at Highfield RFC.
The team showed great composure in defense but it is their hunger in attack which finally paid off with first Center Mary Horan broke through and went over the line. Full back Mairead Crowe converted. But the lead was short lived and after a penalty given away, Highfield, quick off the marks, ran through an unready Clanwilliam defense to score the equalising try. With both teams levelled, Clanwilliam had to defend on their own line. But after a try saving tackle by blood substitute and newcomer Louise Carroll, Clanwilliam were on the offense again.
The second half was as fast paced, the opposition kept coming but it is Clanwilliam which scored when captain Sharon Lawlor went over the line after a move involving nearly the entire team from their own 22 all the way to the Cork try line to conclude this riveting friendly 12-7 for Clanwilliam.
After the match, it was remarked by new scrum half Chloe Brehenny, one of four amazingly skilled players just through from the Club Underage Girl Rugby, “we played as if we were together for years”. Now is the time to join this team, next match will be on the 25th November away to Galbally and the Tipp Ladies can’t wait…
