Meteor Munster Sevens

The Munster Branch today announced details of the Meteor Munster Sevens Cup, the first senior Club Sevens rugby tournament in the province. The event will involve 16 Senior AIB League sides and will take place on Saturday 11th August, at Old Crescent R.F.C in Limerick.


 
The 16 teams competing in the Meteor Munster Sevens tournament will be involved in over 30 games, kicking off at midday and finishing with the grand final at 6pm. The event will feature all the top Munster Clubs including Current AIB All-League League holders and ODM Munster Senior Cup winners Garryowen, alongside Shannon, Cork Con and UL Bohemians.

Ultan O’Callaghan Munster Rugby Provincial Domestic Games Manager, emphasising the importance of the competition, said   “Sevens rugby is an area where we believe individual skills can be honed and developed and we are delighted that Meteor have come on board with us in such an enthusiastic and constructive way. We believe this competition will be hugely beneficial to the clubs and to Munster Rugby”

Commenting at the launch, Amanda Carroll, Meteor’s Media and Public Relations manager said “With 849,000 customers nationwide, Meteor has a very strong presence in Munster. We are very pleased to be supporting Munster Rugby in a tournament that involves so many talented teams in the province. 

“This tournament,” she continued, ” is a perfect showcase for young talented rugby players, aiming to compete at a higher level, which as the competitive force in the Irish mobile market, was an instant attraction for us.”

The event is also supporting ‘Heads Up’, a new text service from Rehab Care, which aims to help young adults in difficulty by offering support group information for a range of issues via text.

Joining Amanda at the official launch today in Old Crescent were, Munster team manager Shaun Payne along with Jerry Flannery and Keith Earls. Also present were Old Crescent President Frank Larkin, Club PRO Pat Rickard, Munster RDO John Lacey and Munster Sales & Marketing Manager Glyn Billinghurst.
