Tickets Selling Well For Windy City Game
10th August 2007 By Munster Rugby
With over 4,000 tickets already purchased and the premier-level seating areas nearly sold out at Chicago’s Toyota Park, rugby fans in the United States are gearing themselves up to give Munster a warm welcome when they take on the US Eagles in the inaugural Setanta Sports Challenge Cup Sunday, August 26.
The game also acts as a final warm-up for the Eagles before they set off for the World Cup and it is the first of three games Munster will play before their competitive season begins on September 22nd (v Llanelli Scarlets, Musgrave Park).
This is the first match USA Rugby has hosted in the Chicago area in several years and event administrators are expecting a large turnout at one of the nation’s premier outdoor soccer stadiums.
We are very excited about this opportunity to play in Chicago,” Men’s National Team Coach Peter Thorburn said. “Not only does it allow us essential competition against a high level opponent, but we get to play at a great stadium and showcase the progress of our team one last time in front of a home crowd before we leave for France.”
Former England international scrum-half and coach at Gloucester when Munster produced their gfamous ‘miracle match’, Nigel Melville, now CEO and President of Rugby Operations for USA Rugby said. “It’s a modern game in a modern stadium, featuring two top-level teams. Leading up to one of the Worlds’ largest sporting events, this send-off match is just what we need to show Americans what the sport is all about and get fans acquainted with the National Team we are sending over to France for the Rugby World Cup.”
Tickets to this event start at $25, but are being offered to all Illinois police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians and their families (up to 4) for just $15, with a valid badge or ID.
