AIB and the IRFU are delighted to announce that the venues and dates have been confirmed for the AIB League Division 1, 2 and 3 finals. Dublin club, St. Mary’s College RFC, will host the AIB League Division 2 and 3 finals, in their Templeville Road grounds on Saturday 28 April.
The AIB LeagueDivision 3 final will kick off at 2pm, whilst the Division 2 final will kick off at 4pm. The AIB League Division 1 final will be played in Musgrave Park, Cork on Saturday 5 May. Kick off in Cork will be at 2.30pm.
It’s still all to play for in the AIB League Division 1, 2 and 3. The final round of games in Division 1 will be played this Saturday 21 April. Many expect four of the top five teams in Division 1; namely Cork Constitution, Bohemians, Clontarf, Shannon and Garryowen, to contest the Division 1 semi-finals on Saturday 28 April. Shannon and Garryowen are neck and neck at the moment with 43 points, so it will be interesting to see how they fare on Saturday. Shannon will host Cork side, Dolphin in Coonagh, whilst Garryowen, fresh after their AIB Cup final win over Belfast Harlequins, take on Galwegians in Dooradoyle.
The Division 2 semi-finals, which are being played this Saturday 21 April, will see Old Belvedere take on Young Munster in Dublin, whilst Greystones and Clonakilty will be in action in Wicklow. The AIB League Division 3 semi-finals bring Wanderers and Instonians head to head, and Ballynahinch take on Limerick side Bruff.
Speaking on behalf of AIB, Maurice Crowley said, “The AIB League finals are one of the highlights of the Club Rugby calendar, and I am confident that there will be a great atmosphere in Dublin and in Cork on both days. We are delighted that the Division 2 and 3 finals will be played in St. Mary’s College. The club has fantastic facilities and the day should prove to be a huge success. Likewise in Cork, Musgrave Park is an excellent pitch and the ground has a great rugby heritage attached to it, so it is fitting to play the Division 1 final there.”
