Carrigaline Girls Play First League Game
1st December 2008 By Munster Rugby
Carrigaline RFC history was made last Saturday when the Carrigaline under 14 girls rugby team went to St. Mary’s in Limerick for their first league fixture
Conditions underfoot where slippy because of the thawing frost and Carrig got off to a fine start with a dinkying run from Captain and Scrumhalf Jayne Pennefather, connecting with her out-half Rebekah Keating to touch down on the Saints line.
Two minutes later, from a similar move, Rebekah crossed the line again to put Carrig ahead 10-0. After the game recommenced, the Saints came back into the game and despite some ferocious defending from Aoife O’Sullivan and Gillian Kelly, the Saints scored three tries to leave the game 15-10. A huge Carrig effort that involved Ciara O Rourke, Rosa , Heather Deasy and Coimhe Gettings, lead to Rebekah getting her hat-trick .
The Saints rallied again and the game finished 20-15.
A great game was enjoyed by all and Carrigaline did themselves proud on there first outing.
