“I’d Do The Same Again.” – Jean de Villiers
9th June 2010 By Munster Rugby
Springbok coach Pieter de Villiers is somewhat famous for his injudicious comment but his latest outburst has prompted a response from his namesake Jean.
Earlier this week, Pieter DV claimed that Jean DV had told him shortly after arriving in Munster that the move to the then Magners League champions had been a mistake.
However, Jean DV – in the squad for the Springboks in Saturday's test against France – has strongly rejected that claim. ” I really enjoyed my time at Munster. I learned a lot and had a great time. I made very good friends. If I had my life over again, I would make the decision to go there again. It was an incredible experience.”
De Villiers played in 23 of Munster's 28 games this season ending up their leading try scorer (8) and only returned to South Africa – where he will rejoin Western Province – in order to win a place in the Sprngboks World Cup squad.
In February, when he announced his decision to return home he said, ” I'm thoroughly enjoying my time here in Munster and I think it would be fair to say that had the RWC not been a factor, then I would be remaining for at least the next 2 seasons. I would not rule out returning here after RWC 2011 either, if the opportunity arose.”
