Fitzgerald Leads Ardscoil Rís To Perfect Start

St. Munchin’s College 13 – 21 Ardscoil Rís

Ardscoil Rís set up a home quarter-final with CBC after a hard-fought 21-13 win over St. Munchin's at a wet and windy Thomond Park.

Ardscoil out-half Conor Fitzgerald was the stand-out performer as he kicked a conversion and three penalties to seal the win after early tries from centre partners Jack O'Donnell and Peadar Collins.

St. Munchin's started well but an intercept try on 15 minutes by O'Donnell put Ardscoil in front. A second Ardscoil try on 20 minutes really knocked the wind from the St. Munchin sails as Collins crossed to make it 10-nil with Fitzgerald adding the extras.

Two penalties from Munchins' scrum-half Bríain Bennett reduced the gap to six at the break.

A first penalty for Ardscoil's Fitzgerald early in the second half made it 15-6 but Munchin's fought back yet again as dynamic loosehead prop Peter Meyer dotted down and Bennett slotting the conversion to reduce the gap to just two points.

Munchin's pushed for that all-important second try but Ardscoil ended on a high with two late Fitzgerald penalties sealing a 21-13 win.
