Speaking with media after the game, Head Coach Anthony Foley said, “The game ebbed and flowed and the emotions ebbed and flowed with them. Being ten points down twice wasn’t something that we had planned for but in fairness to the lads they came back strong and to score 5 tries against a Graham Steadman defence is no mean feat.”
“We’re sitting top of the table with four wins so we can’t really ask much more of the boys but now all the focus switches to Scarlets. They played last night (Friday) so get an extra days rest and on top of that we have to travel over there so how we manage the next 48 hours is crucial.
Foley also commented on returnee Tomás O’Leary who made his first appearance for the province since 2012 after returning from a stint with London Irish, “I thought Tomás played very well for a guy that hasn’t played for quite a while. He looked sharp and made some very good decisions. He’s obviously a very physical guy as well and he was quick to get stuck in.”
Man of the Match Ian Keatley also met with media after the game and while delighted with the win, highlighted the need for improvement, “The story of our season so far is that we have been winning ugly. It’s like every time we go behind we flick a switch and pick up the tempo and intensity, get a try and go ahead before we let the opposition back in. That’s happened in our first few games and it happened again today. We need to look at that going forward and be an 80 minute team if we are to be in contention at the end of the season.”
Foley’s men now travel to face Scarlets in Llanelli in a top of the table clash this Friday at 7.05pm.
