Video highlights, action shots and post-match reaction from Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus as Munster recorded a bonus point win over Edinburgh, using the scrum to great effect in netting two opening half tries.

In meeting with media after the full time whistle, Erasmus did not get carried away with Munster’s scrum dominance all game, against an Edinburgh side missing internationals WP Nel and Ross Ford in their front row.

“We will get stiffer opposition as we go on. I am not saying this team was weak at all. I am just saying for the teams we have played so far we have done well at scrum time and are getting some solidness around the scrum where it was a fragile facet before.”

In looking ahead to Munster’s upcoming encounters – Zebre, Leinster and Racing – Erasmus added,

“The big, big guns will come now. Italian teams like scrumming. You start playing Leinster, Leicester and Racing, those guys enjoying scrummaging.

“We are ticking the box so far at scrummaging, but there are going to be some reality checks in the next few weeks.”

While not the prettiest of wins, and with a couple of defensive lapses letting Edinburgh in for 14 points, overall Erasmus was satisfied with the intensity shown by his men, especially as uncontested scrums in the second half removed their most potent weapon.

“Sadly in that second-half we had two real bad slip tackles. Individual tackle errors from players. And that let them in for 14 points. But I thought in the circumstance of the yellow card and the problem that we had at tighthead today, I thought that was a gutsy performance.”

Next Home Game:
Munster are back at Thomond Park next Saturday, October 1st at 5pm to face Zebre in Round 5 of the Guinness PRO12. Ticket can be purchased online here and at the Munster Rugby Ticket Office in Irish Independent Park and Thomond Park.

Scoring his first Munster try in the game, academy back row Conor Oliver spoke MunsterRugby.ie after the game.
