O’Driscoll Rings The Changes
15th January 2016 By Munster Rugby
Munster A Head Coach Mick O’Driscoll has named his side for Sunday’s British & Irish Cup Round 5 clash away to Yorkshire Carnegie in Lockwood Park. O’Driscoll makes 10 changes to the side that defeated Ospreys Premiership Select in Round 4.
All three front-row forwards make their first B&I Cup starts with Cork Constitution’s Brendan Quinlan and Old Belvedere’s Eddie Rossiter packing down alongside senior representative Peter McCabe who returns to provincial action after sustaining a pectoral tear during Munster’s pre-season.
Shannon’s Lee Nicholas comes in to join the academy’s Sean McCarthy in the second row with Sean Doyle joining Jordan Coghlan and captain Shane Buckley in the back row.
Having rehabbed a long-term hamstring injury, fly-half Johnny Holland makes a welcome return to the starting XV and partners Duncan Williams in the half-backs, while academy player Dan Goggin is another promoted to a start – teaming up with Cian Bohane in the midfield.
The final two changes are seen in the back three with Gerhard van den Heever and the academy’s Stephen Fitzgerald taking charge of the left and right wings respectively.
On the week he signed a senior contract with the province (starting next season), academy talent David Johnston again starts at full-back.
Should he feature from the bench, Young Munster’s Shane Fenton will make his first B&I Cup appearance. In overcoming a long-term neck/shoulder injury, if introduced, academy prop Brian Scott will make his first B&I Cup appearance since April 2014.
