10 Munster Players In AIL Action

There were plenty of Munster senior and Academy players in AIL action last weekend with 10 players lining out for their clubs.

Cork Constitution were on the road for the first time this season as they travelled to Lakelands Park to take on Terenure in a repeat of last season’s final.

Having only recently returned from a stint in Australia Munster hooker Scott Buckley was one of the try scorers in their 25-15 loss.

Mark Donnelly was also named in the Cork side.

Elsewhere in Division 1A Garryowen defeated Lansdowne 29-27 at Dooradoyle. Gordon Wood, who made his Munster debut in recent pre-season friendly against Gloucester, scored a try just in the nick of time to secure the win for the Light Blues. George Hadden also added to their try tally while Dylan Hicks kicked one of the three conversions. Bryan Fitzgerald was also included in the squad for the day.

Young Munster were also on the road last weekend as they travelled to the capital to take on UCD. The Cookies defeated the Dublin side 24-22 with Shay McCarthy picking up two tries.

Fellow winger Patrick Campbell also togged out for the Limerick side and unfortunately picked up a shoulder knock in the clash.

In Division 1B Shannon suffered defeat to Queen’s University 19-13 in Belfast. Luke Murphy was a try-scorer on the day and was joined on the squad by Kieran Ryan.

And finally Gene O’Leary Kareem made his AIL debut for UCC last Saturday where they were deated 43-17 by Old Belvedere
