Video: O’Gara, Zebo & Holland Post Racing
22nd January 2017 By Munster Rugby
Yesterday’s 22-10 Champions Cup win over Racing 92 at Thomond Park saw Munster make sure of a home quarter final and secure a second placed seeding for the knock out stages. After the game, MunsterRugby.ie spoke exclusively to try scorer Simon Zebo, Billy Holland and returning hero Ronan O’Gara.
None better than O’Gara to prime a team for a European trip to Limerick and despite their non-existent chances of progression in this season’s competition, Racing were never going to make it easy for Munster, the game hanging in the balance until the 79th minute when an Ian Keatley try realistically put the hosts out of reach. Munster’s all-time record point’s scorer was proud of how his Racing charges stood up and was ‘taken aback’ by the warmth of the welcome he received on his return to Thomond Park.
Another all-time record holder for Munster, this time in the try scoring stakes, Simon Zebo, made it six tries in ten appearances for the season to date when he crossed for the game’s opening try on 36 minutes. Like so many of his tries, the fullback had no right to score but somehow brushed off the challenge of several defenders in twisting and crashing over the line.
A leader amongst the pack, Billy Holland made his presence felt off the bench in the second half and joined Zebo in reflecting on the province’s turnaround in fortunes and thanked fans for their immense support.
