In supporting a host of club, school, charity and community initiatives, Munster players and staff have made their way across the province in recent weeks.  Here is but a sample of their recent visits.

Bank of Ireland U16 & U18 Clubs Launch

In supporting the next generation of players, two products of the club game, John Madigan and James Cronin, were on hand to launch the Bank of Ireland Munster Underage finals.  Joined by Bank of Ireland’s Morgan Whelan and representatives from participating clubs, the launch took place in Thomond Park prior to Munster’s PRO12 clash with Scarlets.

Underage Blitzes

Staff and squad members continue to make their way to underage blitzes.  Allowing young players the opportunity to hone their skills in a competitive environment, the blitzes also allow Munster’s Community Rugby Officers to keep up to date on their progress.

In Cork, James Cronin and Billy Holland headed along to support those attending an U15 blitz in Mahon, while in Limerick, academy centre and recent Ireland U20 captain Calvin Nash visited the U15 & U17 Marks & Spencer Emerging Schools Blitz at LIT, with Mike Sherry and Sean McCarthy attending a 1st Year blitz in St Munchin’s College.

School Visits

The pupils of St John’s National School had a nice surprise when Mike Sherry and Mark Chisholm called in for a visit.  The lads answered all of the kids’ questions about playing rugby for Munster, before brushing up on their art skills and helping out in the yard come break time!

Duncan Casey and Sean McCarthy dropped into Castletroy College where they took part in a Q&A session in the school gym.

While, Sean McCarthy also joined Dave Foley in visiting Scoil Ide in Corbally.

i-PLAY at UL

Mark Chisholm, Ronan O’Mahony and Jack O’Donoghue were delighted to help out at i-PLAY (Inclusive Play and Leisure Activities for Youth) in UL.  Run by the Physical Education & Sports Science Department, i-PLAY is a weekly physical activity programme designed for children, youth, and young people (aged 5-21) with special needs. The main goal of this weekly programme is to engage participants in various physical activities (dance, games, HRA, etc) throughout the academic semester.

DEAR Ireland

Tommy O’Donnell and local man Keith Earls headed along to Thomond Community College Library in support of the DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) Ireland national reading campaign.
