Munster Players Host Alzheimer’s Tea Day
26th April 2017 By The Editor
Munster players and management today got in on the action for Alzheimer’s Tea Day in association with the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, official charity partner of Munster Rugby for the 2016/17 season.
Hosting their very own Alzheimer Tea Day in the Foyer of the Foundation Building in UL, CJ Stander, Ian Keatley, Robin Copeland, Dave Foley, Alex Wootton, Jaco Taute, Jack O’Donoghue, and coaches Felix Jones and Jerry Flannery, were on hand to serve tea and cake, sign autographs, pose for selfies and take part in the raffle!
Plus, CJ will have to make yet more room in his ever expanding trophy cabinet, this time for a spatula, beating off stiff competition from Dave Foley and Robin Copeland in a cake decorating competition which was judged by current Miss Ireland Niamh Kennedy.
All monies raised stay locally to help to fund the services offered by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) in Limerick, including day care, home care, dementia adviser and support groups.
Organiser of the event, Professor Eoin Devereux, Assistant Dean, Research, AHSS Faculty, UL said, “We have had an incredible response from both students and staff at the University of Limerick, with offers of baking cakes, serving teas and helping out on the day. We have had generous support from University Concert Hall, Aramark Catering, the Plaza and Scholars Cafes. The outpouring of support is testimony to the fact that an increasing number of families are directly affected by dementia. We are honoured that Munster Rugby are on board for our Tea Day.”
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland National Helpline is open six days a week, Monday to Friday 10am–5pm and Saturday 10am–4pm on 1800 341 341. http://www.alzheimer.ie/Home.aspx
