With the squad set to open their Champions Cup and British and Irish Cup campaigns this weekend, there was positive news on the injury front with no fresh concerns following Saturday’s clash at the Aviva Stadium while a number of players step up their rehabilitation programmes this week.

James Cronin returns to full training from the knee niggle he sustained against Ospreys, as does academy lock Sean O’Connor having recovered from the neck injury he sustained against Glasgow.  Jean Kleyn who also sustained a neck injury at Scotstoun continues to be managed by the medical team.

Darren O’Shea continues to make good strides post-shoulder surgery and progresses to modified training this week.

Continuing to rehab: Gerbrandt Grobler (ankle), Conor Oliver (shoulder), Dan Goggin (knee), Ronan O’Mahony (fibula), Dave O’Callaghan (knee) and Jaco Taute (knee).

Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus and Munster A Head Coach Peter Malone will name their respective sides at midday on Friday.

In the weekend’s AIL action, having made the journey with Munster to Dublin as a travelling extra alongside Darren Sweetnam, Kevin O’Byrne started and scored a try for Cork Con in their 24-10 loss to Lansdowne on the Aviva Stadium back pitch yesterday.  Joining the hooker in the Con side were the academy trio of Shane Daly, Alex McHenry and Vincent O’Brien.

David Johnston scored a try and two penalties for Garryowen as they went down 27-20 to Terenure at Lakelands Park.  Johnston’s brother Bill, Mike Sherry and academy winger Liam Coombes also started for the Limerick side.

Academy back row Gavin Coombes started at number 8 at Tom Clifford Park where Young Munster went down 17-21 to Trinity.

In Division 1B James Hart kicked a penalty and two conversions for UL Bohs with the Limerick side enduring a 34-17 defeat away to Ballynahinch.

Meanwhile, Dolphin had a day to forget in their all-Munster derby away to Shannon on the Thomond Park back pitch.  The academy’s Conor Fitzgerald and Jack Stafford crossed for tries and both added further points via the boot – the former slotting four conversions and the latter adding two.  Recent senior signing Ciaran Parker also touched down with Duncan Casey starting at hooker.  Brian Scott started in the front row for Dolphin.
