7th November 2017 By The Editor
Thomond Park will host an historic double-header of Barbarians matches on Friday night with the Baa-baas men’s and women’s sides facing Tonga and Munster respectively.
Munster’s James Cronin and Brian Scott were both called into the star-studded Barbarians squad yesterday along with Munster great Donncha O’Callaghan and Ireland international Jordi Murphy.
The world’s most famous invitation side also boast two of the biggest and most destructive wingers in world rugby and they will certainly be key to their game plan. Julian Savea, aka “The Bus” (46 tries from 54 appearances), weighs in at 6ft 4” and just under 17 stone and Wallaby Taqele Naiyaravoro, aka “The Tank” at the same height – 6ft 4” and weighing in at a colossal 19.5 stone.
The Barbarians fell to a 31-22 defeat to the All Blacks in a thrilling spectacle at Twickenham last weekend having led 17-10 at half-time.
Friday’s first game will be a historic encounter as a vastly experienced Barbarians women’s side lines out for the very first time. Squad details.
The Munster Women’s team will provide the opposition as they prepare for December’s Interprovincial Championship.
This game will kick-off at 4.45pm with the Munster squad coached by former international star Laura Guest.
Admission to the Barbarians v Tonga match (7.30pm) also includes admission to the women’s match. Tickets are available from €15 (adults).
