MRSC Travel Guide For Munster Supporters In Edinburgh

This weekend we will take to land, air and sea as we once again adorn the red of our Province and march towards Edinburgh; one of Europe’s most beautiful cities.

From the Old Town’s picturesque jumble of medieval buildings piled high along the Royal Mile to the modern new town we could think of no better venue for the quarter-final tussle against a resurgent Edinburgh.

Welcome the team to Murrayfield

The Munster squad will be arriving at the ground on Saturday morning at around 11am.

Getting to the ground

Murrayfield is easily accessible by bus, tram and foot from Princes Street. It is three stops west of the Princes Street tram stop; served by Lothian buses 12, 22, 26 and 31; or about a 40-minute walk.

Murrayfield is a 67,000-seater stadium and sales for our game are sitting well above 30,000 tickets.

This is why it is essential to wear red, bring extra flags if you have them and be prepared to have a sore throat as we create an amazing red army atmosphere to support the team in such a large stadium.

You can find all the info you need for directions here.

Entering the ground

Gates open at 10.45am with a 12.45pm kick-off time. Transport to the ground will be busy so supporters are advised to allow extra time to get to the ground. Only bags which can comfortably fit under your seat will be permitted into the stadium.

Top three places to visit

Edinburgh Castle: At the top of the Royal Mile, this imposing fortress is an active military installation and a fascinating visit for learning about the History of Edinburgh and Scotland.

Holyrood Palace: The other end of the Royal Mile is the Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyrood House. A great visit to find out more about both modern and olden times Scotland.

Mary King’s Close: In the middle of the Royal Mile (but underneath the Royal Exchange) is an old bricked-up street named Mary King’s Close, where visitors can enter and explore the 17th century tenements. Learn what it was like to live in Scotland’s 17th century tenements.

Going out

Starting from Malone’s, walking east up the Grass market, and under George IV Bridge onto the Cow gate you will pass dozens of bars (including several Irish pubs), taverns and clubs which are usually busy and offer a fantastic atmosphere, a generous helping of live music and sufficient chip shops to keep you fed and watered.

Fine dining

For more refined dining, we recommended you consider heading north of Prince’s Street and to explore the lanes around Rose St, George St and Hill St where you will find a good blend of cheap and cheerful eateries and haute cuisine establishments.
