All Ireland League Roundup

A disappointing day for the Munster clubs in the Men’s All Ireland League with only four sides winning and in the Women’s All Ireland League U.L. Bohemian proved too strong for Ballincollig in their Munster derby tie.

Cork Constitution were the only Munster winners in Division 1A, when a second half rally saw them come from 19-7 down at halftime to beat City of Armagh 28-26 at the Palace Grounds. Daniel Hurley scored two tries for the Temple Hill side and Scott Buckley and Ronán O’Sullivan got one each. James Taylor kicked three conversions and Aidan Moynihan one.

Young Munster had to settle for a losing bonus point at Castle Avenue, as they went down to Clontarf 26-20. The sides were level 14-14 at the interval with Shane O’Leary and Jake O’Riordan scoring tries for the visitors and Julien Leszczynski converting both. Leszczynski added two penalties after the break.

Garryowen remain bottom of the table after their 29-19 defeat by UCD at Dooradoyle. Donnacha Byrne scored three tries for the “Light Blues” and all were converted by Kelvin Langan.

In Division 1B Nenagh Ormond remain in second place after their 22-14 home win against Queens University. Mike Doran was their only try scorer. Conor McMahon kicked the conversion and four penalties with Charlie Doherty adding a drop goal.

U.C.C. remain in third place despite a 31-27 defeat by Old Wesley at the Mardyke. A strong second half fight back by the visitors who came from 27-7 down to snatch it at the finish. Daniel Squires, Sean Condon and Jason Aherne were the Students try scorers and Squires converted all three and also added two penalties.

Tries by Eoghan Clarke and Jack O’Donnell were not enough for Shannon who lost away to Blackrock College 24-10.

Highfield remain bottom of the table after they lost away to leaders Old Belvedere 57-21. Richard Cassidy, Patrick McBarron and Evan Kennedy scored tries for Highfield and Shane O’Riordan converted all three.

Cashel slipped to third place in Division 2A after their 17-14 defeat at home by Navan. Joe Callery and Marcel Stydom were the Cashel try scorers, and both were converted by Ben Twomey.

Instonians defeated Old Crescent 35-17 at Shaws Bridge with Old Crescent getting three late tries from Brian Molloy, Conor Hogan and Jamie Duggan. Ronan McKenna added one conversion.

U.L. Bohemian remain in fourth place in Division 2B after their 27-22 away victory over Galwegians. Oisin Fagan, Kian Regan and Paul Clancy were the Bohs try scorers and Fagan converted all thee tries as well as kicking two penalties.

Division 2C leaders Dolphin lost for the first time this season losing 32-21 to Belfast Harlequins at Deramore Park. Matt Barry scored two tries for Dolphin and Eoghan Herlihy one with Jordan Soli converting all three.

Midleton are the new leaders in this Division after a hard earned 21-6 home win over Bruff. Henry Jephson scored two tries for the East Cork side and Jack Colbert kicked one conversion and three penalties. Ethan Anderson scored two penalties for Bruff in the opening half as the sides were level 6-6 at half time.

Clonmel lost a thrilling game away to Ballyclare 44-38 in an eleven try game. Tom O’Dea, Andrew Daly, Michael Connellan, Henry Buttimer and Diarmuid Brannock were the Clonmel try scorers. Josef O’Connor converted all five tries and also added a penalty.

In the Women’s All Ireland League, UL Bohemian defeated Ballincollig 55-8 at the UL Arena. Chisom Ugwueru and Chloe Pearse each scored two tries and Éabha Nic Dhonnacha, Laoise McGonigle, Eilis Cahill and Rachel Allen were the winners try scorers. They were also awarded a penalty try. Caitriona Finn kicked three conversions and Kate Flannery one. Ballincollig replied with a try from Niamh Crotty and a penalty by Emma Connolly.
