Kilfeacle have gone top of the First Division of the Munster Junior League after a convincing win over leaders Bandon, while Old Christians and Clanwilliam extended their advantage at the top of Division Two and Carrick-on-Suir are the new leaders in the Third Division.
The meeting of the top two sides in the First Division saw Kilfeacle defeat Bandon with a 35-6 home win. Killian Noonan, Bob Purcell, Kevin Kinane and Brendan Barron were try scorers for Kilfeacle and Luke Heuston kicked five conversions. Zach Canniffe and Eoghan Guinevan each kicked a penalty for Bandon.
Thomond’s push towards retaining their title took another step closer as they recorded their sixth bonus point victory with a 24-14 home win over Thurles. They led 24-0 at half time with tries from Andrew Lyons, Sean Rice, Jamie McGarry and Luke Costelloe, with Jason Kiely kicking two conversions. Mark Cummins and Jack Flanagan replied with tries for Thurles and Flanagan converted both.
Sunday’s Well kept their chances alive of a top four finish with a 31-20 home win against Clonakilty. Alex Lane scored two tries for the ‘Well and Finn MacFhlannchadha and Cormac Kelliher got one each. Ciaran Maguire kicked three penalties and a conversion. Clonakilty replied with two tries by Henry Miles and Rob Howick converted both and also added two penalties.
Muskerry eased their relegation worries with a 14-10 away win at Skibbereen. George O’Mahony and Rob Cahill scored tries for Muskerry and Cahill converted both. Lorcan Carey and David Shannon replied with tries for the home side.
St. Mary’s collected maximum points with a 35-20 home win against Crosshaven. Tyrone O’Halloran scored two tries for the Saints and Adam Kiely and Paul Curtis got a try each along with a penalty try. Adam Guerin kicked four conversions. Crosshaven replied with tries from Killian Twomey, Graham Smith, Anthony Sheehan and Liam Cotter.
Newcastle West got back to winning ways with a 24-18 away win at Kanturk. Sean Darcy, Alan Rice and Dan Normoyle scored tries for the winners. Rice kicked two conversions and a penalty, and Andrew Mortell also added a conversion. Matt Daly and Paul O’Keeffe replied with tries for Kanturk. O’Keeffe kicked a conversion and a penalty and Darragh Leader also added a penalty.
Old Christians continued their push for promotion with a 59-7 away win at Tralee. Niall McCarthy and Mark Gleeson each scored two tries for the winners and Ivan Tripp, Dave Ahern, Sean Kelly, Cian Walsh and Laszio Rabatin got one each. John Marnell kicked seven conversions. Tralee replied with tries from Ben Glavin and Ronan O’Sullivan and they were also awarded a penalty try.
Clanwilliam made it six wins from six after their 31-14 home win against Charleville. Gavin Downey (2), Brian Roche, Darragh Crowe and Ronan O’Connor were Clanwilliam try scorers. Niall Leahy kicked two conversions and Ben Downey one. Eoin McMahon and Bryan Ruane were scored tries for Charleville and Jessie Smith converted both.
Kinsale moved up to third place after their 32-12 home win against St. Senan’s. David Looney scored three tries for the winners and Joey O’Callaghan got one. Dylan Lacey kicked three conversions and two penalties. Brian Collins and James Kennedy replied with tries for Seanan’s and Declan Rowe added a conversion.
Ennis lost ground as they were held to a 10-10 draw away to Fethard. Robert Wall and Richard Anglim scored tries for Fethard and Oisin Mangan replied with a try for Ennis, which Dylan Kenny converted and also added a penalty.
Ballincollig lost for the second successive week after Cobh Pirates defeated them 10-5 at Tanner Park. Alex Mulligan and Billy Caine were the Pirates try scorers and Mick O’Shea replied a try for the home side.
Castleisland edged out Waterpark 24-22 to move out of the relegation zone. Mike Cronin scored two tries for the Kerry side and Donal Geaney got one. Joe Sheehy converted all three tries and also added a penalty. Luke Cronin, Gregg Staff and Brandon Vosloo were Waterpark try scorers and Willie Walsh kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Fermoy got their first win of the campaign with a 17-15 away win at Abbeyfeale. Pat Duggan (2) and Peter Finn one were the Fermoy try scorers. Ben McCarthy kicked a conversion. Abbeyfeale replied with tries with Matt Nolan and James Culhane. Caoimhin Barrett added a conversion and a penalty.
Carrick-on-Suir defeated Waterford City 41-15 to take over top position in Division Three. Ryan O’Donoghue scored two tries for Carrick’ and Cian Walsh, Fionn Barry, Andrew Bolger, Tom Reid and Ronan O’Connell got one each. Barry kicked three conversions.
Corca Dhuibhne still remain in second place despite losing 47-15 at home to Killorglin. Stephen Cotter, Jamie O’Leary, Timmy Lynch, Shane O’Neill, Fionan O’Sullivan and Cian Corcoran were try scorers for Killorglin who were also awarded a penalty try. Luke O’Shea kicked five conversions. Kentin Bouvier, Joseph Delaney and Donnacha Brosnan replied with home tries for Corca Dhuibhne.
Killarney are level on points with Corca Dhuibhne after their 21-3 away win against Galbally-Mitchelstown. Diarmuid Carr, Donnchadh Grealy and Padraic Talbot scored tries for Killarney, with Grealy converting all three tries. Pa Shanahan kicked a penalty for the home side.
Dungarvan defeated Douglas 53-24. Reinhard Groenewald (3), David Hickey (2), Brendan Cullinane and Daniel Slevin were try scorers for Dungarvan. Hickey kicked six conversions. Jack Maye, Rory O’Connor, Ben Costigan and Paddy Hourigan replied with tries for Douglas. Eoin Philpott kicked two conversions.
