It was a busy day in Virgin Media Park this afternoon as the Munster Clubs Boys Cup finals took place.

There were U16 and U18.5 cups up for grabs with Waterpark taking the U16 title and Bandon taking the U18 title.

Clonkilty RFC 22 – 26 Waterpark RFC

Waterpark are crowned Munster Clubs U16 champions after a rip roaring final five minutes of play saw them defeat the West Cork outfit by just two points.

The Waterford natives gained momentum quickly in the opening 10 minutes as out half Oscar Flanagan crashed over and converted in the fifth minute and outside centre Liam Walsh followed suit in the 11th.

But Clonakilty stayed in the fight and in the 24th minute they touched down through Ewan Knowles after they blocked down a clearance kick from Waterpark from behind their try-line.

The West Cork outfit were reduced to 14 for the first time in the 26th minute as Tadhg O’Brien was shown his first yellow.

Running into the sheds at half time Waterpark led 5-14.

Clon showed a burst of class in the opening five minutes of the half as they scored back-to-back tries just three minutes apart.

Ewan Knowles crashed over for his second in the 33rd minute which Daniel Donovan converted.

Fionn O’Donovan ran in in the 36th minute with Donovan adding the extras.

Having only returned to the pitch before the half Tadhg O’Brien was show red in the 40th minute for a second yellow card infringement reducing Clonkilty to 14 for the remainder of the game.

A penalty for the West Cork side in the 48th minute gave them a solid 22-14 lead going into the final 10 minutes.

But Waterpark weren’t finished as centre Caolan Johnston crashed over in the 56th minute after a dominant carry from Euo Leslie Kwakuvi.

Rua Clancy sealed the deal for the Waterford side as the scrum half sniped over the line from the back of the ruck. Oscar Flanagan added the extras bringing the final score to 22-26 .

Munster Clubs Boys U18.5 Cup Final

Old Christians 13  –  28 Bandon

Bandon were crowned Munster Clubs Boys U18.5 Cup champions after a dominant display from city side Old Christians.

Old Christians got scoring underway in the 11th minute when tighthead prop Brian Cassin barreled over beneath the posts. Samuel Haberlin added the extras.

Bandon responded in the 23rd minute with a try from Cillian O’Flynn which out half Daniel Coughlan easily converted.

The West Cork side were in again just six minutes later as Coughlan crashed over after a fantastic period of play from the backs. The out half also added the extra two.

Old Christians got themselves back in the score board just before half time with a penalty from the boot of winger Haberlin.

At the whistle Bandon led 10-14.

Old Christians opened the scoring of the second half with yet another three pointer in the 39th minute

But Bandon struck twice more in the 54th and 66th minute with tries from Sean Dooley and Jack McNamara. Coughlan kicked the extras to bring the score to 13-28 at the final whistle.
