13th August 2010 By Munster Rugby
The Munster Branch of the IRFU today officially launched the fourth annual Meteor Munster Rugby Sevens Cup. This year’s event will take place on Saturday 21st of August in Garryowen FC, Limerick City, between midday and 6pm.
Every county in the province will be represented as all of Munster’s top clubs, including AIB League champions Shannon and defending Meteor Munster Sevens champions Thomond, will all battle it out for the 2010 Meteor Munster Sevens title. Taking part in the competition as well this year will be junior clubs and women’s club teams from across the province, all of whom will be competing in their respective divisions.
Ultan O’ Callaghan, Munster Rugby’s Domestic Rugby Manager, said; “It is fantastic to see both Munster Rugby and Meteor coming together again to support the domestic club game. Sevens rugby is an ideal platform for both adult retention and the talent development of provincial players and was given a huge boost in profile now being included in the 2016 Olympic Games. We look forward to showcasing the skill and ability that these players have to offer at this year’s Meteor Munster Sevens Tournament”.
Commenting today's launch Amanda Carroll, Head of Meteor PR, stated, “Meteor is extremely excited and proud to be part of the Meteor Munster Sevens Cup for the fourth year running. This high calibre sporting event showcases the wealth of talent that Munster has to offer and we are thrilled at the prospect of some of these gifted players going on to represent Ireland in the 2016 Olympic Games. Meteor has long been recognised for its competitive value offers and this year we look forward to being part of what is set to be the most competitive Meteor Munster Sevens tournament yet!”
As in previous years it will be a great family day out, with over 70 matches scheduled. In addition to the action packed rugby schedule there is a host of family entertainment planned including a bouncy castle, a barbeque and a live DJ.
