It was once again a strong summer for Munster Rugby’s partcipation this summer with over 2567 children taking part in different camps throughout the province.
The Munster Rugby Summer Camps proved to be very popular once more this year with 1939 kids aged 6-12 taking part in the week long camp which took place in 23 venues across the province.
The start of June saw our Excellence Camps taking place in UL, MTU Cork and MTU Kerry. This year saw four of the camps take place, one for girls and three for boys, and 222 players ages 13-16 taking part.
The boys’ School Of Excellence returned to Rockwell College for two separate camps. The week-long camps, which have both residential and non-residential options, saw 265 players attend across both weeks.
Bandon Grammar School once again played host to the girls’ School Of Excellence where there were 140 players in attendance.
The Excellence Camps and the Schools of Excellence provided a premium rugby experience and offered a week-long structured rugby development programme which included core skill development, game understanding, position-specific training, appropriate strength and conditioning training and teamwork.
This year also saw the return of the Munster English and Rugby Camps with 40 players from across Europe in attendance.
The two-week camp programme is for students between the ages of 13 and 16 years who wish to develop their English language and improve their rugby skills.
Students will build and develop their confidence in communicating in English and increase their vocabulary and social English while learning more about rugby values including teamwork, respect and integrity.
Students on this course attend mixed English language classes in the morning on the MTU campus and the focus of the afternoon activities is on rugby training and matches with professional Munster Rugby coaches.
