Abbeyfeale RFC Hosts Girl’s Rugby Summer Camp

Abbeyfeale RFC recently held their first ever girls only rugby summer camp. The week was organised and overseen by coach John Moloney and was designed to develop the skills of the current squad and introduce the game of rugby in a fun environment to new players.

During the course of the week the girls were encouraged to develop and improve their techniques in passing, tackling, rucking and scrimmaging with a focus also on the laws of the game.

John was assisted during the week by Munster Rugby Coach Development Officer Noel O'Meara along with Ireland and Munster Women's star Louise Austin.

Louise took time out of her busy training schedule to visit the girls before leaving for the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England which starts on Friday, 20th August. Her presence with the girls peaked their interest in rugby even further and no doubt left a number of them aspiring to join her in the prestigious honour of representing not only their country but province in the coming future.

Maura Collins was the lucky recipient of one of Louise’s Irish jerseys after she identified Maura as one to watch for the future.

Should you be interested in joining the girls in Abbeyfeale RFC please contact John Moloney on 086-2221736 or email magmoloney189@gmail.com
