Action In Three Junior Divisions
10th February 2017 By Munster Rugby
There is a full programme of games in the top two divisions of the Munster Junior League, together with two outstanding games in Division 3.
Division 1 defending champions Clonmel travel to the Banner County to take on St Senan’s and they will be looking to take another step closer to retaining their title as they hold a seven point lead ahead of second-placed Newcastle West.
Bandon and Newcastle West will be looking to keep their aspirations of finishing in the top four intact as Bandon, who are third, travel to West Limerick to take on Abbeyfeale and Newcastle West, who are second, host Richmond.
Clanwilliam, who are two points behind near neighbours Kilfeacle in fifth place travel to Rathcooney to take on Old Christians. The Tipperary Town side will be looking to grind out a maximum point win in their bid for a top four finish.
Kilfeacle will be looking to get a result from their trip to East Cork where they take on Cobh Pirates.
Skibbereen and Clonakilty, who are both hovering above the drop zone, lock horns in a West Cork derby at the Carbery Showgrounds with both sides aiming to take another step closer to safety.
Muskerry, who are second from bottom, are away to Galbally.
Division 2 leaders Waterpark host bottom side Ennis and the Suirsiders will be expected to claim all points on offer in their bid for a quick return to the top flight.
Second-placed St Mary’s will also be expected to get a result from the visit of Youghal, whose aspirations of a second successive promotion have been dealt setbacks by successive defeats by Waterpark and Thurles.
Third-placed Thurles travel to Suirside to take on Waterford City, who are fifth. The Tipperary side are four points behind St Mary’s and will have their work cut out if they are to grind out a maximum point win in a bid to maintain their outside promotion challenge.
Tralee, who are coming off the back of three successive wins following a disappointing start to the campaign, will be looking to take another step closer to safety as they host near neighbours Castleisland.
Charleville, who are still without a win, but claimed their sixth losing bonus point against North Cork neighbours Mallow, travel to South Cork to take on Kinsale.
Presentation, who are hovering above the drop zone, but ten points ahead of Charleville, will be looking to make the most of home advantage count as they host Ballincollig, who are sixth.
Elsewhere, Mallow host Crosshaven in a mid-table clash at St Joseph’s Road.
In the two games outstanding in Division 3, Fethard, will be expected to record their fourth win of the campaign as they host bottom side Bantry Bay.
Pacesetters Killorglin, who are unbeaten but have slipped to second place as a result of Mitchelstown’s maximum point victory over Douglas-Carrigaline make the short trip east to take on third-placed Killarney. This is a must win game for Killorglin if they are to finish the campaign unbeaten and gain automatic promotion to Division 2 as champions. A win for Killarney would hand the title and automatic promotion to Mitchelstown.
