It was a great day of results for the Munster U18 squads in the final round of the IRFU U18 Festival at UL on Sunday, while the Munster U19 and Munster U18 Girls teams were also in action over the weekend.

The residential festival at the UL grounds is a chance for squads from IQ Rugby and the four provinces to live in a professional rugby environment over 10 days. As well as three rounds of Interprovincial Championship action, players avail of personal development, mental skills and nutritional workshops.

Munster U18 Clubs finished as runners-up in the clubs competition with a 36-10 victory over last year’s winners Connacht.

Ennis RFC out-half, Tony Butler, scored 16 points with first-half tries from Edwin Edugobo and Dylan Murphy combining with scores from Butler, Owen Byrne and James Finn in the second-half. Butler landed a penalty and four conversions.

A closing penalty from CBC out-half Shane Buckley helped Munster defeat Leinster in the schools Interprovincial decider – final score Munster U18 Schools 23-20 Leinster U18 Schools. That earned Munster the Dudley Cup, but Leinster’s better record over the three-round tournament ensured that they won the overall Championship.

Munster tries were scored by Daniel Hurley and Jack Oliver with Buckley securing two conversions and three penalties overall.

Munster U19 lost out 14-49 to Leinster in the final round of their Interprovincial campaign at Maynooth University on Sunday.

Munster U18 Girls were edged out 10-0 by Connacht in the third round of the Women’s Interprovincial Series at The Sportsground on Saturday.

Munster U18 Girls return to Irish Independent Park on Saturday, 31 August, for a double-header against Leinster with the Munster Women’s squad, kick-off 1pm – €5 adults, U18s go FREE.
