Age-Grade Player & Coach Development Update
10th January 2019 By The Editor
The Munster Rugby Age-Grade Player Development Programme continued over the Christmas period with full-day training camps taking place early in the new year.
The U16 and U17 boys squads trained at Irish Independent Park with specific emphasis on strength & conditioning and technical monitoring, while also taking part in games with Presentation Brothers College and Christian Brothers College.
The Munster U18 Girls and Talent Identified players trained at UL with a similar emphasis on strength & conditioning and technical development.
Munster Rugby Coach & Player Development Manager, Keith Murphy, said: “This was a good opportunity for us to gauge players’ technical rugby development during the season.
“The regional development programme has been running each Monday since mid-October and combined with their club training and games, we are certainly seeing player progressions.
“The girls’ programme will run during mid-term breaks and both programmes will continue until the end of March / early April where we commence final selections for our Munster Talent Camp.”
Coach Development Update
The Rugby Development Department continue to run coach and player development clinics / workshops for clubs and schools, with a number of workshops already delivered throughout the province.
The core emphasis for these workshops are based on the four cornerstones of the game including catch/pass, contact skills, support and continuity skills, and defence.
The updated rugby development programme is nearing completion with 15 rugby sessions, complimented by coaching points and videos, to support coaches in their development of the core rugby skills.
The coaching video platform is being updated and has been added to support coaches in their personal development.
“We are looking forward to activating our updated rugby development programme.
“The booklet is nearing completion and the team have spent the last six weeks putting together the complimentary videos, which are being completed and uploaded to the video review and performance analysis tool, Hudl.
“We look forward to making this additional resource available to coaches across the province,” Murphy added.
