The age-grade player development programme kicked off the new year with the U16 and U17 club boys’ squads taking on their Connacht counterparts in a development game at UL on Thursday 4th January.

The day commenced with the U17 game, in windy but dry conditions, with both teams playing the game in an expansive fashion.

The U16 games picked up where the U17s left off with both sides moving the ball and looking to exploit space in every effort to break one other down.

The U16 games were broken into three segments, allowing all players on both sides equal game time.

Thank you to all players, coaches, medics and the Munster Association of Referees for facilitating a valuable player development day.

The U18 girls and the new Talent Identified Players (19-21 year-olds) trained on Wednesday 3rd January, with a focus on strength and conditioning, and rugby skill development at UL.

The day commenced with the TIP utilising the new gym in UL’s pavilion where S&C co-ordinator Lorna Barry, supported by Clodagh Quilter, Mark O Connell and Denis Corridan, completed a screen profile of the players’ competencies and movement capacities in the gym.

The U18 girls followed a similar programme before all players participated on the 4G pitch where a number of Connacht U18 girls were invited to participate in the session, providing valuable development for all.

The U18 girls’ coaches, Eugene McCarthy and Euan Gee, were on hand to facilitate the U18 girls while invited coaches, Laura Guest (current Munster Ladies Head Coach) and former Munster players Ben Martin and Mike Storey, delivered the TIP girls’ session.

A big thank you to all of the girls who participated, Munster Women’s Community Rugby Officer, Amanda Greensmith, and all of the coaches who facilitated an effective player development day.
