AIL Coaches Open Day Held In HPC
20th October 2023 By The Editor
Earlier this month, a number of senior club coaches from throughout the province were invited to Munster Rugby’s High Performance Centre at the University of Limerick.
The morning session began with an introduction to how Munster want to play from a technical and tactical standpoint and presentations were provided to the coaches in attendance by Head of Rugby Operations Ian Costello and Elite Player Development Officer Tommy O’Donnell.
These presentations provided information on Munster’s key attacking and defensive principles and questions from coaches then took place.
The coaches then observed the senior men’s team apply these principles during an on-pitch training session.
In the afternoon, the senior coaches, the Academy coaches and the AIL coaches discussed and reviewed the senior men’s team training session from earlier in the day which allowed an opportunity for further questions and discussion.
Munster Rugby Academy & Pathway Manager Gar Prendergast said:
“Wig (Graham Rowntree) very much has an open door policy, we want the cornerstones of our game to be shared throughout the clubs and schools game. We find it very important that it goes to the players whether their Academy, NTS or if they’re playing club or if they’re playing down the pathway.”
Prendergast added: “Some of the feedback we got already was very positive. They found it very engaging and felt really positive about getting the opportunity to come in at any stage of the season whenever they want for that sharing piece and that learning piece.”
