All Ireland League Round Up

The All Ireland League got under way this weekend with games across all three second divisions.

In Division 2A, six of the ten sides are from Munster and for the two relegated Munster clubs from Division 1B it was not a happy day as both Dolphin and UL Bohemian lost.

At the 4G pitch in UL, Highfield made a great start defeating UL Bohemian 36-10. The Cork side led 14-7 at half time and had two tries each from Miah Cronin and Paul Stack. The half back pairing of Shane O’Riordan and Chris Bannon also scored tries with O’Sullivan kicking three conversions. Robbie Bourke replied with a try, conversion and a penalty.

At Cashel the home side defeated Dolphin 26-10. Keith Melbourne, Jonty Rae and Niall Fitzgerald scored tries for Cashel and they were also awarded a penalty try. Dolphin replied with a penalty try and a penalty from Daryl Foley.

Last season’s Division 2B champions Old Crescent began their campaign with a 21-19 away win against Queens University. Brian Tuohy and Kevin Doyle scored tries for Crescent and Ronan McKenna added a conversion and three penalties.

Newly promoted Navan started their campaign with a 36-16 home win over Nenagh Ormond. Nick Irwin was Nenagh’s try scorer and Alex Ropeti kicked a conversion and the three penalties.

In Division 2B Sunday’s Well fought back from 17-10 down at half time to defeat Sligo 20-17 at Irish Independent Park. Cyprian Jouve and Michael Moynihan scored tries for the ‘Well and Peter O’Brien kicked two conversions and two penalties.

Midleton got off to a great start in Division 2C with a 35-8 home win over Bruff. Benji Cottle, Jon Gardiner, Mark Corby and Martijn Korterik scored tries for Midleton. Stuart Lee kicked three penalties and three conversions. Bruff replied with a try from Neilus Keogh and Tony Cahill added a penalty.

Thomond made a winning start with a 33-22 home win over Skerries. Richie Ryan, Fintan Cross and Jordan O’Donnell scored tries for the Limerick side. Evan Cusack added three conversions, three penalties and a drop goal.
