Both Clontarf and Cork Constitution recorded bonus point victories to maintain the top two spots in Division 1A of the All Ireland League ahead of next week’s meeting at Castle Avenue.

Clontarf defeated UCC 37-22 at the Mardyke to record their first winning bonus point victory. Two super individual tries by Rob Hedderman and Cian Bohane as well as a Ryan Murphy try were not enough to get College anything from this tie. James Taylor kicked two conversions and a penalty for the students.

Cork Constitution remain a point behind Clontarf after their 31-3 away win against UCD at Belfield. Vincent O’Brien, Rob Jermyn, Jason Higgins, Shane Daly and Billy Crowley scored tries for Constitution. Aidan Moynihan kicked three conversions.

There was no joy for Shannon at College Park as they lost to Dublin University 31-19. Jake Flannery, Craig Casey and Ikem Ugwueru scored tries for Shannon and Conor Fitzgerald kicked two conversions.

Garryowen edged out Young Munster 32-26 in a thriller under the lights at Dooradoyle on Friday might. Garryowen led 16-14 at half time and despite having Liam Coombes red carded in the second half Garryowen hung on for victory thanks to the excellent kicking of former Glenstal star Ben Healy who kicked six penalties and two conversions. Dave McCarthy and Cian O’Shea were Garryowen’s try scorers. Evan O’Gorman, Alan Tynan, Conor Mitchell and Conor Philips scored tries for Young Munster and Shane Airey added three conversions.
