Cork Constitution

Cork Constitution's Sean French was again on the score sheet with two tries away to Garryowen.

Defeats for the leaders in Division 1A and 2A of the All Ireland League but no changes at the top of either division.

Cork Constitution went down to a surprising 27-22 home defeat by UCD but still maintain an eight point lead as second placed Lansdowne lost away to bottom side Terenure College 35-26. The Dublin students led 15-10 at half time. Munster Academy back Sean French scored three tries for Con’ and Aidan Moynihan kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Young Munster’s hopes of avoiding relegation received a big boost at Tom Clifford Park after their 12-10 win over neighbours Garryowen before a large crowd. Peadar Collins gave Garryowen an early 7-0 lead with a try and conversion. Two penalties from Shane Airey closed the gap to a point but a Collins penalty gave the Light Blues a 10-6half time lead. Penalties on 50 and 70 minutes by Airey gave the home side the bragging rights as Garryowen slipped out of the top four on points’ difference.

Shannon lost at home to Dublin University 27-24. Tony Cusack scored two tries for Shannon and Eathon Moloney and Pa Ryan got one each. Fionn McGibney kicked two conversions.

U.C.C. lost away to Clontarf 36-29 but the two bonus points they picked up moved them out of the relegation zone a point ahead of Young Munster. Michael Clune, Daire Feeney, Ryan Murphy and James Taylor scored tries with Taylor kicking three conversions and a penalty.

In Division 2A Highfield went down to a surprising 17-12 defeat away to Navan. A try from Kevin O’Leary and a late penalty try saw Highfield earn a losing bonus point.

Cashel closed the gap on Highfield to seven points after their 56-19 home win against struggling Blackrock College. Jonty Rae scored three tries and converted all eight tries. James Kendrick, Conor Cashman, Richard Moran, Eamon Connolly and Ed Leamy also scored tries for the Tipperary side.

U.L. bohemian slipped from 4th to 6th after their 35-3 away defeat by Queens University. Mike Mullally opened the scoring with a penalty for the Limerick side.

Old Crescent kept their play-off hopes alive with a 35-22 home win over bottom side Galwegians. Val McDermott scored two tries for the winners and Larry Hanly, David Garry and Kevin Doyle got one each. Ronan McKenna converted all five tries.

Dolphin moved out of the relegation zone after their 46-17 home win over fellow strugglers Nenagh Ormond. Dolphin secured their first four try bonus point of the season and had it secured in the opening thirty minutes as they led 31-0. Tim Phelan scored two tries for Dolphin and Dalton Shaughnessy, Daryl Foley, Jussi Viljanen and Alan O’Sullivan got one each. Foley kicked six conversions and two penalties. Nenagh nearly snatched a four try bonus point near the end as Peter Coman, Niall O’Gorman and Danny Gleeson scored tries and Coman kicked a penalty.

Sunday’s Well suffered their ninth successive defeat in Division 2B away to Wanderers 17-13 but could have won it late on if they were more clinical close to the line. Ian Murphy scored the ‘Well’s try and Eoghan Geary converted and added two penalties.

Midleton defeated Thomond 22-17 in Division 2B but failed to pick up a bonus point and are now six behind the leaders Ballina. Benji Cottle, mark Corby and Daniel Murray scored tries for Midleton and Stuart Lee converted two and also added a penalty. Eoghan Cross and Dermot Fitzgerald replied with tries for Thomond and Evan Cusack converted both and also added a penalty.

Bruff defeated Bangor 25-11 to keep their play-off place on track. Cian Clifford, Kevin McManus and Neilus Keogh scored tries for Bruff. McManus kicked a penalty and a conversion. Dave O’Grady also added a conversion and a penalty.
