Highfield RFC secured promotion to Division 1B with victory over Cashel.

Highfield were crowned All Ireland League Division 2A champions after defeating second place Cashel 27-24 in a thrilling game at Woodleigh Park.

Dan Healy, Timmy Ryan, Miah Cronin and Gavin O’Leary scored tries for Highfield and Shane O’Riordan converted two and added a penalty. Mike Casey, Darragh Lyons and James Kendrick replied with tries for Cashel and Jonty Rae converted all three and also added a penalty.

Old Crescent’s hopes of a play-off place were dealt a big blow at Rosbrien when Dolphin defeated them 15-14, a result that ensures Dolphin another season in this Division. Timmy Phelan and Alan O’Sullivan scored tries for Dolphin and Daryl Foley kicked a conversion and a penalty. Old Crescent had a try from Padraig Monaghan and a penalty try with Ronan McKenna adding a conversion.

Nenagh Ormond eased their relegation worries with a 10-5 home win over U.L. Bohemian. John Lillis gave Nenagh the lead with a penalty after 27 minutes. Thirteen minutes into the second half John O’Flaherty scored a try for the home side and Lillis converted to make it 10-0. Harry Fleming brought Bones back into the game with a try mid-way through the half but the Tipperary side held out for an important four points.

Division 1A League leaders Cork Constitution who could have clinched top spot with a win over Dublin University were surprisingly beaten 37-13 at College Park. Alex McHenry scored a try for the Temple Hill side and Aidan Moynihan kicked a conversion and two penalties.

In the relegation battle U.C.C. edged out Young Munster 13-10 in a thrilling game at the Mardyke. Shane Airey gave the visitors a 3-0 half time lead with a penalty. Two penalties from James Taylor had the student ahead after 55 minutes but a try by Luke Fitzgerald converted by Airey gave Young Munster a 10-6 lead with eight minutes remaining. College rallied and a try by Rob Hedderman converted by Taylor earned the home side the points.

Shannon lost at home to bottom side Terenure College 18-12. Ronan Coffey and Aran Hehir scored tries for Shannon and Ben Daly kicked one conversion.

Sunday’s Well brought to an end an eleven game losing run with a 55-13 home win over Galway Corinthians. They scored eight tries with Cormac Kelliher getting two and Willie McCarthy, Ryan Buckley, Owen Glynn, Mick Moynihan, Paddy Hegarty and Sean Glynn getting one each. Brian Derham kicked six conversions and a penalty.

A last minute drop goal by Stuart Lee earned Midleton a dramatic 2-20 away win at Bangor and keeps their hopes of an automatic promotion place still alive. Benji Cottle, Bryan Moore and Michael Cronin scored tries for Midleton and Lee converted two.

Bruff kept their promotion hopes alive with a 31-5 home win over Tullamore. Cian Tierney, Neilus Keogh, Dave O’Grady and Sean Darcy scored tries for Bruff and Kevin McManus converted all four and also added a penalty.

Bottom placed Thomond lost 24-10 away to Omagh Academicals and now look on the verge of being automatically relegated. Dean O’Brien and Mike Madden scored tries for Thomond.
