All Ireland League Round Up

Several of the promotion play-off spots and relegation places have been decided with just one round of games remaining in the All Ireland League.

Garryowen’s slim chances of making the Division 1A play off places ended at the Aviva Stadium as they lost to Lansdowne 54-26. Cian O’Shea, David McCarthy and Luke Ashmore scored tries for Garryowen who trailed 23-14 at half time. They were also awarded a penalty try and Jamie Heuston added two conversions.

Nenagh Ormond secured their place in Division 2A with a 21-21 draw away to Blackrock College Dave Gleeson and Stephen Carey scored tries for Nenagh, Alex Ropeti kicked a conversion and a penalty and Conor O’Brien added three penalties. Blackrock will now play in the Division 2B play offs.

League champions Highfield lost away to Queen’s University 24-17. Ben Murphy, Eddie Earle and Dave O’Connell scored tries for Highfield and Paul Downes converted one. The win assured the Belfast students a place in the Division 2A play-offs.

Queens win meant UL Bohemian could not qualify for the play off places despite their 24-21 bonus point home win over bottom side Galwegians. The Connacht side raced into a 21-0 lead but two tries from Darragh O’Grady and one each by High Bourke and Oige Scannell, two of which Mike Mullally converted.

Also assured of their place in the play offs are Navan who defeated Dolphin 83-7. James Vaughan scored a try for Dolphin and Daryl Foley converted.

Sunday’s Well were relegated to Division 2C after their 53-19 home defeat by Belfast Harlequins. James Kiernan, Shane Bushe and Paddy Hegarty scored tries for the ‘Well and Brian Derham converted two.

Midleton are almost assured of second place in Division C following their 31-15 home win over Seapoint. Jon Gardiner, Rob Carey, Rian Hogan and Josh Deady scored tries for Midleton and Stuart Lee converted all four and also added a penalty.

Bruff’s hopes of a place in the play offs received a setback when they lost away to City of Derry 27-19. Liam Treacy scored two tries for Bruff and Cian Tierney got one. Kevin McManus kicked two conversions.
