All Ireland League Round Up

UCC still retain top spot in Division 1A of the All Ireland League as Munster’s James Cronin scored three tries for Highfield as they held on to top spot in Division 1B.

In the Women’s All Ireland League, UL Bohemian defeated Blackrock College 38-15 at UL – tries from Rachel Allen, Sarah Quin (2), Stephanie Nunan, Edel Murphy and Emma Doolan with Nicole Fitzgerald adding four conversions.

UCC travelled to Tom Clifford Park and made it three wins from three with a 20-14 win over Young Munster.

Jordan Stewart opened the scoring for “the Cookies” with a try which Evan Cusack converted. John Poland brought College level with a try which James Taylor converted. Two Taylor penalties edged the Cork students ahead but a try by Evan O’Gorman which Cusack converted had the home side in front 14-13 at the interval.

A second try from Poland converted by Taylor earned UCC the spoils.

Cork Constitution stayed in contention with the leaders after their 21-17 home win against Lansdowne at Temple Hill. Tries from Brian Hayes, Jack Costigan and Tomas Quinlan all converted by Aidan Moynihan had Con’ 21-3 ahead and they had to withstand a late Lansdowne rally to secure the points.

Garryowen lost away to Dublin University 37-19. The Limerick side trailed 17-14 at half time and had tries from Tommy O’Hora, Bryan Fitzgerald and Sean Rennisson with Jamie Heuston kicking two conversions.

James Cronin played his first game in Highfield colours this season and he contributed three of his sides six tries in their 38-20 home win over Naas. Dan Healy, Luke Kingston and Fintan O’Sullivan were their other try scorers as Shane O’Riordan kicked four conversions to keep his side top of Division 1B.

Shannon moved up to fourth place after their 16-3 win over Navan on the back pitch in Thomond Park. Pa Ryan scored an intercept try for the winners. Billy Grey converted and added two penalties and Ben Daly kicked one.

Cashel defeated leaders Old Crescent 34-22 in Division 2A to move up to fourth place in the table. Alan McMahon, Niall Fitzgerald and Jos Pickering scored tries for Cashel, who were also awarded two penalty tries. Luke Dufy kicked a conversion and a penalty. Old Crescent replied with tries from Kyle Theron, Val McDermott and Shane Mullally with Ronan McKenna converting two and adding one penalty.

Nenagh Ormond lost away to MU Barnhall 22-12. Conor O’Brien kicked four penalties.

UL Bohemian picked up a losing bonus point in their 21-26 home defeat by Rainey Old Boys. Kieran O’Shea scored two tries for the Limerick side and Oige Scannell one with Harry Byrne converting all three.

Queen’s University are the new leaders after their 26-17 bonus point win away to Dolphin. Kevin Allen and Killian Ansboro scored tries for Dolphin and Daryl Foley converted both and added one penalty.

Midleton defeated leaders Bruff 23-10 in their Division 2C tie at the Towns Park to move into second place. Rob Carey and Rian Hogan scored tries for Midleton and Stuart Lee converted both and added three penalties. Cian Clifford scored a try for Bruff which Kevin McMahon converted.

Clonmel recorded their first win in the All Ireland League when they came from 10-0 down to beat Bangor 17-10. Darren Cass and Philly Ryan were Clonmel’s try scorers and Cass converted and also kicked penalty.

Sunday’s Well lost away to Tullamore 12-8 and are now at the foot of the table but only five points off the leaders. Cyprian Jouve scored a try for the ‘Well and Eoin Geary kicked a penalty.
