All Ireland League Round Up

Cork Constitution increased their lead at the top of Division 1A of the All Ireland League, as Highfield were defeated for the first time in Division 1B.
The meeting of the top two teams In Division 1A at Temple Hill saw Cork Constitution defeat second placed U.C.D. 53-10. The home side ran in nine tries and led 24-10 at the interval. Brian Hayes and Ross O’Neill scored two tries each. Barry Galvin, Jack Costigan, James Murphy, Rob Jermyn and Bruce Matthews got one apiece. Gerry Hurley kicked three conversions and Ryan Foley one.
Garryowen defeated U.C.C. at Dooradoyle 25-10 to move up to second spot. Cian Hurley, Dave McCarthy, Colm Quilligan and Johnny Keane were “The Light Blues” try scorers. Dave McCarthy kicked a conversion and Jamie Heuston added a penalty. Murray Linn was College’s try scorer and Eoin Monahan kicked a conversion and a penalty.
Having been bottom of the table a few weeks ago Young Munster staged a second half rally away to Ballynahinch to win 26-24 and are now in fourth place. A Jordan Stewart try converted by Evan Cusack saw “The Cookies” trail 24-7 at half time. Tries from Fintan Coleman, Conor Bartley and Cusack two converted by Cusack saw the visitors take the spoils.
The meeting of the top two in Division 1B saw Old Wesley end Highfield’s unbeaten start to the campaign with a 25-22 victory at Energia Park. Paul Stack, Eoin Keating and Colin O’Neill scored tries for Highfield. Shane O’Riordan kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Shannon have moved into the play-off places with a 24-11 home win over St. Mary’s College. Ikem Ugwueru and Pa Ryan scored tries for Shannon. Billy Grey converted both and also kicked a penalty. They were also awarded a penalty try.
An Eamonn Connolly penalty was not enough for Cashel who lost away to Buccaneers 8-3 but still remain in third place in Division 2A.
Old Crescent are now fourth after their 34-15 away win at Nenagh. Patrick Scully and Kevin O’Flaherty scored tries for the Tipperary side and Conor O’Brien kicked a conversion and a penalty.
U.L. Bohemian out of the relegation zone with a 50-24 win over Dolphin in their basement clash at the 4GUL. Jamie McNamara scored three of UL Bohes eight tries with Robbie Bourke, Colin Madden, Oige Scannell, Jamie Shanahan and Jack Foley getting a try each. Bourke converted five of the tries. A late rally by Dolphin saw the pick up a losing bonus point. Cillian Ansboro, Alex Denby, Kevin Allen and Dave O’Mahony replied with tries for Dolphin and Daryl Foley kicked two conversions.
Clonmel defeated Bruff 18-13 to move into fourth place in Division 2B. Greg Carroll scored Clonmel’s opening try and Darren Cass kicked a conversion and two penalties. Johnny Cleary scored a try for Bruff and Kevin McManus converted and added a penalty and a drop goal.
Tries from Robert O’Keeffe and Graeme Lawlor and a conversion by Brian Derham was not enough for Sunday’s Well who lost at home to Skerries 13-12, having been 13-0 down at half time.
Midleton still remain in bottom place after they lost away to Tullamore 29-17. Alex O’Brien and Michael Cronin scored tries for Midleton and Stuart Lee converted both and also kicked a penalty.
In the Women’s All Ireland League, UL Bohemian defeated Old Belvedere 19-0 with scores from Chloe Pearse, Stephanie Noonan and Eimear Considine combining with two conversions from Nicole Fitzgerald to maintain the squad’s unbeaten record in the league this season.
