The battle for playoff places across all four divisions of the All Ireland League involving Munster sides intensifies with just three rounds of games remaining.
Cork Constitution got back to winning ways in Division 1A with a 29-21 away win against Garryowen, who are already relegated. Billy Scannell and Billy Crowley scored first-half tries for Constitution who led 14-0 at halftime. Jack Kelleher and Niall Kenneally added further tries to secure the bonus point for the visitors. Jamie Shanahan, Colm Quilligan, and Matt Sheehan replied with tries for the Light Blues.
A second-half rally saw Young Munster come from 10-3 down at halftime to beat Lansdowne 15-10 on the back pitch of the Aviva Stadium, to maintain their promotion challenge. Stephen Lyons and Shay McCarthy scored tries for the Cookies’ and Evan Cusack kicked a conversion and a penalty.
A penalty from Mike Cooke was not enough for Shannon who lost at home 33-3 to leaders Clontarf.
A late come back at Woodleigh Park saw Highfield snatch a 21-16 win against Old Wesley to maintain their challenge for a playoff place in Division 1B.
UCC defeated Banbridge 46-34 at the Mardyke, to open up an eight point gap in their bid to avoid the relegation battle.
Nenagh Ormond moved up to second place in Division 2A, two points behind leaders Queens University, after their 34-24 home win against Ballymena. Josh Rowland, Conor McMahon, Nicky Irwin, John O’Flaherty, and Patrick Scully scored tried for Nenagh, With McMahon kicking three conversions and a penalty.
Cashel’s hopes of making the playoffs received another setback when they lost away to MU Barnhall 21-17. Richard Kingston, Idris Rqibi, and Sean O’Connell scored tries for Cashel and Aidan McDonald added a conversion.
Old Crescent defeated Navan 22-21 to earn four precious points in their bid to move away from the relegation zone.
At the foot of the table, UL Bohemian defeated Dolphin 27-24 thanks to a late try from Darragh O’Gorman to open up an eight-point gap ahead of their Cork opponents. Paul Clancy (2) an Jamie McNamara were UL Bohs other try scorers. Harry Byrne kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Clonmel lost at home to Skerries 18-10 in Division 2C. Andrew Daly scored Clonmel’s try and Dylan Cadogan converted and also added a penalty.
Bruff maintained their promotion push with a 15-13 home win against Bangor and are just four points behind Clonmel.
Midleton put in a superb defensive performance to hold out for a 24-17 home win against second-placed Tullamore. Ryan Lehane scored two tries for Midleton and Mark Stanton got one. Stuart Lee converted all three tries and also added a penalty.
Trailing 15-14 early in the second half at home to Omagh Academicals, Sunday’s Well ran in five tries for a 49-15 victory. Eoin O’Sullivan (2), Jamie O’Leary, Conor O’Brien, Daniel Courtney, Gary Downey, and Dan O’Brien were the ‘Well try scorers. O’Leary kicked six conversions and Cormac Kelliher one.
