All Ireland League Roundup

Cork Constitution closed the gap to one point on leaders Clontarf in Division 1A of the Energia Men’s All Ireland League, as UL Bohemian received a walk over from Suttonians to maintain their six point lead in the Energia Women’s All Ireland League.

Shannon pushed Cork Constitution all the way in their Munster derby encounter at Temple Hill losing 38-24 and felt that they should have got something from the contest as it was only in the closing minutes that the home side put the game out of Shannon’s reach with two converted tries. Matthew Bowen scored three tries for Con’ and Matisse Lamarque D’Arrouzat, George Coomber and Harry O’Riordan got one each. Coomber kicked four conversions. Kelvin Brown replied with two tries for Shannon and Luke Rigney got one. Mike Cooke converted all three tries and also added a penalty.

Young Munster ensured their safety in the top section with a 31-24 win over UCD at Tom Clifford Park. Donnchadha O’Callaghan and James O’Brien each scored two tries for “The Cookies”, and prop Harrison Allan got one . Tony Butler kicked three conversions.

A conversion by Mick O’Gara of a last minute try by Stephen Kilgallen earned runaway Division 1B leaders St. Mary’s College a 10-9 win over Highfield at Woodleigh Park. Three penalties by Shane O’Riordan looked enough to give Highfield a surprise victory.

Garryowen maintained their promotion challenge with a convincing 56-5 win against Naas at Dooradoyle. Max Clein (3), Donnacha Byrne (2), Bryan Fitzgerald, Neil Cronin, and Colm Quilligan were the Light Blue try scorers, Dylan Hicks kicked six conversions and Kelvin Lanagan two.

UCC took another big step away from the relegation zone with a 22-21 victory over Old Belvedere at the Mardyke. Cian Whooley, Sam O’Sullivan, and Louis Bruce were the College try scorers. Whooley added two conversions and a penalty.

Division 2A leaders Nenagh Ormond had their game at home to Ballymena postponed because of a waterlogged pitch, but second placed Cashel kept up their challenge with a 17-13 win away to UL Bohemian. Kevin O’Connor and Jack Evenden scored tries for the Tipperary side and Ben Twomey converted both and also added a penalty. Harry Byrne kicked two penalties for UL Bohs and converted a last minute try that secured a losing bonus point for the home side.

Old Crescent moved up to fourth place after an impressive 36-14 home win against Banbridge. Micheal Hanrahan scored two tries for Crescent and Joe Rickard, Sean Monaghan, and Werner Hoffman got one each. Ronan McKenna kicked four conversions and a penalty.

Dolphin defeated Rainey Old Boys 21-0 at Virgin Media Park, as they try to move away from the relegation zone in Division 2B. Eoghan Herlihy, Philip Dowling, and Dalton O’Shaughnessy scored tries for Dolphin, with Daryl Foley converting all three.

Bruff suffered a heavy 40-7 defeat away to runaway leaders Clogher Valley. Clem McAuliffe scored the Limerick side’s try.

Midleton defeated bottom side Ballina 15-10 at the Mayo venue. Mark Corby and Callum Jeffrey scored tries for Midleton, Jack Colbert kicked a conversion, and Conall Doyle landed a penalty.

Seven penalties from Josef O’Connor helped Clonmel to a 21-8 away to Omagh Academicals.

Ballincollig ran in six tries in their 36-10 home win against Cooke in the Women’s All Ireland League; Michelle O’Driscoll scored two tries, and Brigid Twohig, Sinead O’Reilly, Laurileigh Baker, and Róisín Ormond got one each. Anna Roche kicked two conversions, and  Alison Kelly one.
