Young Munster’s home win over leaders Clontarf, sees Cork Constitution take over top spot in Division 1A of the All-Ireland League.
A good start by Young Munster laid the foundation for their 27-14 home win against Clontarf. The home side were 12-0 up inside ten minutes with tries from Ihechi Oji and Ruadhan Quinn, with Julian Leszczynski converting one. A second try by Quinn converted by Leszczynski made it 19-7 in favour of “The Cookies” at half time. Hubert Gilvarry scored a fourth try for the home side and Leszczynski added a penalty after the interval.
Cork Constitution defeated City of Armagh 31-19 at Temple Hill to take top spot. Rob Jermyn, Joe O’Leary, Daniel Hurley and Jack Kelleher scored tries for the home side and James Taylor converted all four tries and also added a penalty.
A late come back by UCD saw them defeat Garryowen 26-15 at The Bowl and moved them ten points ahead of bottom side Garryowen. Garryowen who led 15-7 in the early stages of the second half, had tries from JJ O’Neill and Colm Quilligan with Jack Oliver kicking a conversion and a penalty.
In Division 1B all four Munster sides suffered defeats.
Nenagh Ormond’s hopes of automatic promotion were dealt another blow, when they lost away to Queen’s University 24-14. Angus Blackmore and David Gleeson scored tries for the Tipperary side and Conor McMahon converted both.
U.C.C. lost another high scoring game away to Old Wesley 44-41. Luke McAuliffe scored four second half tries for College with Peter Hyland getting two and Harry Murphy one in the opening half. Murphy kicked three conversions.
Highfield lost at home to leaders Old Belvedere 30-10. In a closely fought opening half the visitors led 14-10 with David O’Halloran scoring Highfield’s try and Shane O’Riordan converted and also added a penalty.
A late converted try denied Shannon victory at Thomond Park as they lost to Blackrock College 20-16. Cillian Corkery and Stephen Kiely scored tries for Shannon and Jamie Gavin kicked two penalties.
In Division 2A, Cashel kept up their promotion challenge with a 25-14 away win at Navan.
Old Crescent lost at home to leaders Instonians 40-29. Jamie Duggan, Ronan McKenna, Timmy Duggan and James Keogh scored tries for the Limerick side and McKenna kicked three conversions and a penalty.
A last minute try denied UL Bohemian victory at home to Galwegians in Division 2B, as they suffered a 25-24 defeat. Darragh O’Gorman, Kean Sheehy and Kian Regan scored tries for ‘Bohs and Oisin Fagan converted all three tries as well as a penalty.
Midleton still maintained pole position in Division 2C, after their 15-11 away win at Bruff. Johannes du Toit and Younes Marboh scored tries for Midleton and Jack Colbert kicked a conversion and a penalty. Shane Duggan replied with a try for Bruff and Paul Collins kicked two penalties.
Dolphin kept their challenge alive with a convincing 46-33 home win against Belfast Harlequins. Philip Dowling scored two of Dolphin’s six tries and Karl Waterman, Darragh Buckley, Cameron O’Shaughnessy and Daryl Foley got one each. Jordan Soli kicked five conversions and two penalties.
Clonmel are just two points outside the play-off places after their 19-17 home win against Ballyclare. Freddie Davies (2) and Ben Everard were the Clonmel try scorers and Josef O’Connor kicked two conversions.
U.L. Bohemian recorded another big win in the Women’s All Ireland League after their 68-21 home win against Wicklow. Ciara O’Dwyer, Eilis Cahill, Lily Brady and Laoise McGonagle each scored two tries and Abby Moyles, Stephanie Nunan, Ciara McLoughlin and Éabha Nic Dhonnacha got one each. Moyles kicked three conversions and Kate Flannery one.
Ballincollig suffered a heavy 93-0 away defeat to Blackrock College.
