With just two round of games remaining in the All-Ireland League, most of the Munster sides still have something to play for in the coming weeks.
In Division 1A, Cork Constitution despite beating Young Munster 30-23 at Tom Clifford Park have it all to do, if they are to get a home semi-final. Despite falling behind to an early try for Young Munster by Patrick Campbell, once two penalties by James Taylor put the visitors ahead they were always in control but will be disappointed to have missed out on a 4 try bonus point. Matthew Bowen, Jack Kelleher and Billy Scannell were the Con try scorers and Taylor contributed three conversions and three penalties to their tally. Jake O’Riordan and Shay McCarthy were the other try scorers for the home side. Julian Leszczynski kicked a conversion and two penalties.
Despite an impressive performance away to City of Armagh, which Garryowen won 26-17, their time in the top flight is almost over. Josh Boland and Cian Hurley scored tries for Garryowen and Dylan Hicks converted both and also added four penalties.
Nenagh Ormond just need four points from their two final games to ensure a home semi-final in the Division 1A play-offs, after their 34-26 home win against Old Wesley in Division1B. Josh Rowland scored two tries for the newly crowned Munster Senior Cup champions, and Ben Pope, Charlie O’Doherty and Davy Gleeson got one each. Conor McMahon kicked three conversions and a penalty.
U.C.C. kept their promotion hopes alive with a 29-28 home win over Queens University. Dan Squires played a big part in this victory with a try, three conversions and a penalty. Sam O’Sullivan, Mike Cogan and Stephen O’Shaughnessy were the other College try scorers.
Both Highfield and Shannon recorded away wins in their bid to avoid relegation to Division 2A.
A late try by Ben Murphy saw Highfield snatch a 28-23 win against Dublin University at College Park. Darragh Fitzgerald, Dave O’Sullivan and Luke Kingston were the other try scorers for Highfield. Shane O’Riordan converted all four tries.
Shannon’s 15-10 away win at Naas, kept their hopes of avoiding automatic relegation alive. Cian McCann and Cian O’Halloran scored tries for Shannon and Jamie Gavin kicked a conversion and a penalty.
In Division 2A, Cashel continued their good run with a 36-8 home win over all ready relegated Buccaneers. David Upton scored two tries for Cashel, and Marcel Stydom, Alan Flannery and Joe Callery got one each. Ben Twomey kicked four conversions and a penalty.
A last minute penalty denied Old Crescent a share of the spoils at Banbridge, as they suffered a 9-6 defeat. Ronan McKenna kicked two penalties for the Limerick side.
U.L. Bohemian kept their chances of a play-off place in Division 2B alive, after the beat Rainey 15-0 at Hatrick Park. Joe Johnson and Oisin Fagan scored tries for Bohs and Fagan added a conversion and a penalty.
In Division 2C, leaders Midleton suffered a 24-12 away defeat to fellow promotion challengers Ballyclare, Harry Jephson and Johannes Du Toit scored tries for Midleton and Kyle Read kicked a conversion.
Dolphin kept their hopes alive of a play-off spot with a 20-15 home win against Clonmel. Jordan Soli, Karl Waterman and Scott Sexton scored tries for Dolphin and Soli kicked a conversion and a penalty. Luke Hogan and Freddie Davies replied with tries for Clonmel and Josef O’Connor kicked a conversion and a penalty.
A last minute try by Sean Kilbridge and a conversion by Paul Collins earned Bruff an important 17-15 away win against Belfast Harlequins in their bid to avoid the relegation playoff spot. John Sheehan scored Bruff’s other try, which Collins converted, and he also added a penalty.
