All Ireland League Roundup

David Hyland of Cork Con and Jack Kelleher of Cork Con at full time

It was a great day for the Munster sides in the All Ireland League semi-finals, as Dolphin were the only side to lose and that was to another Cork side.

Holders Cork Constitution are through to another final as their experience proved the difference as they beat St. Mary’s College 16-8 at Templeville Road. The home side opened the scoring with an unconverted try, but a penalty by James Taylor left the visitors trail 5-3 at half time.

A try by Dave Hyland which Taylor converted put the holders ahead 10-5. Two further penalties by Taylor ensured that Cork Constitution will face Clontarf in next week’s final, after the Castle Avenue side defeated Lansdowne 17-15 in the other semi-final.

It will be an all Munster Final in the Division 1A Play Off Final next week when Nenagh Ormond will entertain UCC at New Ormond Park.

Nenagh booked their place in the decider with a hard earned 25-17 home win against Blackrock College. The Dublin side led 17-15 at half time with Conor McMahon and Mikey Doran scoring tries for the Tipperary side, with McMahon kicking a conversion and a penalty. A try by Willie Coffey and a conversion and a penalty by McMahon saw Nenagh advance.

City of Armagh are relegated to Division 1B next season after they lost their home semi-final to UCC 17-10. The Cork students got off to a great start with a try and a conversion by Daniel Squires, but Armagh were level 7-7 after fifteen minutes. A try by Gene O’Leary Kareem, converted by Squires left UCC 14-7 at half time. The home side reduced the margin to four with a penalty nine minutes into the second half. Six minutes from time Squires kicked a penalty to seal the victory for College.

Cashel booked their place in the Division 1B Play Off Final with a 26-14 home win against MU Barnhall and a trip to Dublin University next Saturday. Alan Flannery and Joseph Callery were the Cashel try scorers. Ben Twomey converted both tries and also added four penalties.

A last minute penalty by Conall Doyle earned Midleton a dramatic home 18-17 win against Dolphin to book a trip to Skerries next week in the Division 2B Promotion/Relegation Play Off  Final.

Tries by Kyle Read and Johannes du Toit and a conversion by Doyle gave Midleton an early 12-0 lead. A try by Brian O’Mahony left Midleton leading 12-5 at halftime.

Dalton O’Shaughnessy scored Dolphin’s second try but Doyle responded with a penalty. A try by John Fitzgerald, which Jordan Soli converted for a 17-15 lead for Dolphin. But their season ended as Doyle kicked that last minute penalty.
