All Ireland League Round Up

UCC remain top of Division 1A after two rounds. Colbert O'Sullivan

Four Munster sides top their respective divisions after the second series of games in the All Ireland League, while UL Bohs lead the Women’s All Ireland League after the first round of competition.

UCC continue to be the early pacesetters in Division 1A after their 39-6 bonus point home win over Ballynahinch. The students had the bonus point wrapped up by half time as they led 22-6 at the break with three tries from Murray Linn and one by Matt Bowen with James Taylor converting one. Ryan Murphy came off the bench in the second half to score two further tries and Daire Feeney got one with John Poland adding a conversion.

Cork Constitution made it two wins from two with a 28-25 win over Clontarf at Castle Avenue. Tries from Gregg Higgins and Dylan Murphy both converted by Aidan Moynihan gave Con’ a 14-12 half time lead. Niall Kenneally and JJ O’Neill added further tries with Moynihan converting both.

A last minute penalty earned Garryowen a 25-24 home win over Lansdowne. Tommy O’Hora, Heuston and Jack Stafford scored tries for the home side and Heuston converted two of the tries and David McCarthy also added a penalty.

Young Munster picked up their second losing bonus point after they suffered a 30-23 defeat at Lakelands Park to Terenure College. Jordan Stewart and Alan Kennedy scored tries for the Limerick side; Evan Cusack converted both tries and added two penalties with Charlie O’Doherty’s late penalty securing the losing bonus point.

Highfield remain top of Division 1B after their 42-28 away win at Banbridge. Colin O’Neill was Highfield’s hero scoring four tries with Miah Cronin and Mark Dorgan getting one apiece. Shane O’Riordan converted all six tries.

Shannon moved up to fifth place following their 32-13 away win at Malone. Pa Ryan scored two tries for Shannon and Adam Moloney, Will Leonard, Nathan Randles and Jamie McGarry got one each. Billy Grey kicked one conversion.

Old Crescent are the new leaders in Division 2A after their 27-10 win over Dolphin at Rosbrien. Kyle Theron scored two tries for the winners and Jack O’Neill got one. Ronan McKenna kicked three conversions and a penalty. Dolphin replied with a penalty try and a Daryl Foley penalty.

Cashel lost ground when M.U. Barnhall defeated them 18-12 at the Spafield. Ed Leamy and Niall Fitzgerald scored tries for the home side and Alan McMahon kicked a conversion.

Nenagh Ormond shared the spoils at Eaton Park 26-26. Josh Rowland scored two tries for the Tipperary side and Peter Coman and John Healy got one apiece. Clayton Stewart converted three of the tries.

U.L. Bohemian are propping up the table as they lost away to Queens University 33-15. Alan Kiely and skipper Joey Conway scored tries for UL Bohes and Kiely added a conversion and a penalty.

The two newcomers Enniscorthy and Clonmel both lost in Division 2C but both picked up a losing bonus point.

Bruff defeated Enniscorthy31-24 to go top Of Division 2C. James Te Pairini scored two tries for Bruff and Cian Clifford and Florent Riquet got one each. Te Pairini converted two tries and also added a penalty and Kevin McManus converted the other two tries.

Trailing 17-0 after fifty minutes at Irish Independent Park to Sunday’s Well, Clonmel staged a late come back to level but a penalty from Dylan Lacey in added time earned the home side a 20-17 victory. Evan O’Connell, Graeme Lawlor and Ian Murphy scored tries for the Well and Lacey kicked one conversion. Luke Hogan and Alex Sheehan replied with tries for Clonmel and Dylan Cadogan converted both and also added a penalty.

Despite trailing 10-0 in the opening stages Midleton were worthy 26-15 bonus point winners at home to Bangor. Rian Hogan, Daniel Murray, Robert Carey and Brian Moore were Midleton’s try scorers and Stuart Lee converted three of the tries.

In the Women’s All Ireland League, UL Bohemian started their campaign with a 57-0 away win at Malone. Chloe Pearse scored four of her side’s eleven tries. Laura Sheehan (2), Caoimhe Tiernan, Claire Bennett, Clodagh O’Halloran, Kate Sheehan and Fiona Reidy were their other try scorers. Nicole Fitzgerald kicked one conversion.
