Cork Constitution

Cork Constitution's Brian Hayes scored two tries In Cork Constitution's 53-10 home win over UCD.

Cork Constitution extended their lead at the top of Division 1A of the All Ireland League as Highfield make it five wins from five in Division 1B.

Having trailed 15-7 at half time Cork Constitution rallied in the second half for a 25-22 home win. Evan Mintern, Brian Hayes and Joe McSwiney scored tries for the Temple Hill side. Jack Crowley kicked two conversions and a penalty. Sean French also added a penalty.

UCC suffered their second successive defeat when they lost away to Terenure College 22-14 and the Dublin side moved into second place ahead of the Cork students. Murray Linn and John Hodnett scored tries for College and Eoin Monohan and Peter Sylvester each kicked a conversion.

Garryowen won the Limerick derby at Tom Clifford Park under lights on Friday evening with a 19-13 win over Young Munster a result that sees “the Cookies” at the foot of the table. .

Young Munster led 13-3 two minutes into the second half with Evan Cusack scoring a drop goal, try, conversion and a penalty. Brian Fitzgerald replied with a try for Garryowen, Ben Healy converted and added four penalties.

Highfield were pushed all the way in their Division 1B clash at Woodleigh Park before overcoming Old Belvedere 14-10. Playing into a strong wind in the opening half, Highfield trailed 10-5 at the interval Colin O’Neill scoring the home side’s try. A drop goal and penalty in the final few minutes from Shane O’Riordan secured the victory with O’Riordan also kicking a penalty mid-way through the half.

Shannon have moved up to third place after their 26-14 home win over City of Armagh. James McGarry, Pa Ryan, Lee Nicholas and Kelvin Browne scored tries for Shannon and Ben Daly kicked three conversions.

Despite losing to second place Rainey Old Boys in Division 2A: Cashel’s losing bonus point saw them move up a place to third despite a narrow18-15 home defeat. Luke Duffy scored two tries for Cashel and James Kendrick but failure to convert and missed penalties proved costly.

Old Crescent remain in fifth place despite their 37-19 home win over Queens University. Lorcan Kavanagh, Maccon Casserly, Val McDermott, Jack O’Mahony and Kyle Theron scored tries for Crescent. Casserly kicked three conversions and a penalty and Shane Mullally also added a penalty.

U.L. recoded their first win of the campaign with a 21-18 home win over Nenagh Ormond thanks to a late try by Jamie Shanahan which Harry Byrne converted. A try from Josh Rowlands and a conversion and penalty by Conor O’Brien gave Nenagh an early 10-0 lead. Tries from Joey Conway and Shanahan which were converted by Alan Kiely and Robbie Bourke got the home side back into the game. A penalty from O’Brien and a Rowlands try had Nenagh 18-14 ahead with fifteen minutes remaining.

Dolphin picked up their first points of the campaign after a 26-26 draw with Ballymena at Irish Independent Park. Callum Mackintosh, Cillian Ansboro, Dave Jennings and Rob Reardon scored tries for Dolphin and Daryl Foley converted three of the tries. Dolphin could have secured all five points but conceded three tries in the final thirteen minutes.

All four Munster sides in Division 2C all lost.

Tries from Johnny Cleary and Jack O’Grady were not enough for Bruff who lost at home to Skerries 31-17.

An early try by Luke Hogan was not enough for Clonmel who lost away to City of Derry 12-5.

League leaders Enniscorthy defeated Sunday’s Well 24-5 Evan O’Connell scoring a first half try for the ‘Well.

Midleton are now propping up the table after their 38-19 home defeat by Omagh Academicals. Rory Hone, Rob Care and Daniel Murray scored tries for Midleton and Stuart Lee converted two.

U.L. Bohemian made it four wins from four in the Women’s All Ireland League after their 32-22 home win over Suttonians. They hold on to top spot on points difference from Railway Union. Fiona Reidy scored three tries for the winners and Rachel Allen, Sara Quin and Chloe Pearse got a try each. Nicole Fitzgerald added one conversion.
