Ard Scoil Ris Win McCarthy Cup

Ard Scoil Ris captured the McCarthy Cup for the fiourth time as Pres knocked holders Rockwell out of the Bowen Shield.

Ard Scoil Ris won the McCarthy Cup final with a 15-10 victory over Rockwell at Dooradoyle. Jack Sexton, Peadar Collins and Jack O’Donnell scored tries for the Limerick School. Rockwell replied with a try from Jack Tierney and Bill Johnston kicked a conversion and penalty.

P.B.C. defeated Rockwell in the semi final of the Bowen Shield at Wilton 12-6 to set up a meeting against Crescent College Comprehensive at a Cork venue next Wednesday 7th December.

Playing with the advantage of the strong wind in the opening half, Rockwell raced into an early 6-0 lead with penalties by out half Aidan Moynihan. Pres’ were on the defensive for most of the opening half and in a rare attack skipper Michael Murphy scored a try under the posts and Conor Flanagan converted for a 7-6 lead after twenty two minutes. Pres’ extended their advantage a minute into the second half when full back Paddy Hegarty cut through the Rockwell defence to score. Rockwell had the better of the exchanges after that but could not find a gap through a solid Pres’ defence.

In the replay of the opening round in the Avonmore Milk Munster Schools Junior Cup Midleton College defeated Bandon Grammar 16-3 at Midleton. Ross Donovan and Kieran Simpson scored tries for Midleton and Josh Foley kicked two penalties. Bobby Smith replied with a penalty for Bandon.
