Avonmore Milk Schools Senior Cup Round 2

Bandon Grammar booked their place in the Third Round of the Avonmore Milk Schools Senior Cup with a deserved win over arch rivals Midleton College at the Towns Park on a 21-7 scoreline.

The West Cork side were hot favourites coming into this tie, but had to pull out all the stops to book their place in the next round where they will face Glenstal Abbey School.

By the quarter stage of this game Bandon looked like they were going to overwhelm their opponents as they raced into a 15-0 lead.

They took the lead when following a drive by the pack from a line out in the corner, skipper James Bendon touched down.

Midleton were rocked minutes later when a wild pass was pounced on by Conor Stallard and he raced thirty five metres to touch down under the posts and Darren Sweetnam converted.

Sweetman extended the lead with a penalty but gradually the home side got into the game.

A magnificent break by scrum-half Andrew Power saw Midleton recycle the ball several times before Adam O’Callaghan managed to force his way over the line. Nick Burns added the two points to put Midleton right back into the game and leave the score 15-7 at half time.
The second half was an even affair with Sweetman kicking penalties at the start and end of the half to book Bandon’s passage to Round Three.
