C.B.C. 13, St. Munchin’s 3.
A deserved victory for Christian Brothers College in their opening game in the Avonmore Milk Munster Schools Junior Cup at Musgrave Park.
The winners totally dominated the game up front and this laid the foundation for the Cork Schools victory.
Christians got off to a great start with Michael O’Halloran slotting over a penalty from thirty metres inside the opening minute.
David Lynch was dominating out of touch and wing forward Daniel Walsh was putting in an amount of work around the park, as Christians had Munchin’s on the back foot for long periods in the opening half.
Excellent tackling by the Munchin’s defence kept Christian at bay but they eventually breeched the Munchin’s defence on nineteen minutes when following a series of scrums close to the line, scrum half Jamie Murphy got in for a try.
The slippery ball was making things difficult and Christians winger Darren Lee knocked on over the line after a well worked back line move on the stroke of half time.
Christians continued to dominate after the break with full back Killian Doyle knocked on when another try seemed certain.
Slowly Munchin’s worked their way back into the match and hooker Peter Meyer kicked a penalty after forty seven minutes.
Munchin’s lifted their game but the C.B.C. defence held firm and in the final minute a forward drive resulted in Evan Mintern going in for a second Christians try.
