Ballina/Killaloe Coaches Upskill
3rd December 2015 By Munster Rugby
Munster Rugby recently hosted two Coaching Workshops at Ballina/Killaloe RFC for the club’s Stage 1 and 2 coaches.
A total of 20 coaches attended both workshops hosted by Munster’s Community Rugby Officers Andy Brace and Euan Gee.
The club's Under 12 players participated in the Stage 1 workshop which focused on the two general movement groups for mini rugby – players on the ball and players in the space. Sample fun games were shown to coaches illustrating the skills relating to these two groups that may have break down in the game. An introduction to physical literacy was also delivered highlighting the importance of including this in a session.
Ballina/Killaloe’s Under 14 side participated in the Stage 2 workshop. The focus of this session was Continuity in Contact. Conditioned games were shown looking at the linear and lateral support options to gain continuity. This was then broken down into the reduced drills focusing on before, during and after the tackle and what a player's role is in each.
Special thanks to Brian O’Shaugnessy and Declan O’Leary for helping organise both Workshops and to Ballina Killaloe RFC for the use of their fantastic facilities on the night.
