Ballincollig & Blarney Schools Play Rugby
24th May 2016 By Munster Rugby
Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig and Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal Blarney recently competed at Tanner Park, Ballincollig in the final day of their ‘Play Rugby’ programme.
The transition year students in both schools have been taking part the IRFU Play Rugby initiative over the past number of weeks coordinated by Munster Club Community Rugby Officers Willie Schubert and Matt McGrath.
The 'Play Rugby' programme encourages the effective development of non-contact mini rugby through schools by providing them with the necessary equipment and coach education.
Since the introduction of the 'Play Rugby' initiative boys and girls throughout the country have learned rugby techniques that include running and evasion, passing and tagging and it is hoped they will continue to play rugby at their local rugby clubs.
School teachers are encouraged to continue with this initiative and assist with the development of rugby at primary and secondary school level.
Both schools received 'Play Rugby' Packs to allow the students to continue playing rugby within the school following the course.
The equipment pack which contains six rugby balls, cones, bibs, games and much more.
